Actually it IS my business, because of this man's actions I and about 10,000 other people were late for WORK. Doing what NORMAL people do, instead of walking in the middle of the god damn street at 12am. Yeah yeah he's dead but AGAIN WTF was he DOING OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GOD DAMN STREET AT NIGHT!.
Just like that other poster said, must have been some good shit. Or salts.

My thoughts and prayers are with all that are affected by this terrible accident. I sympathize for the loss that friends and family members are feeling but the woman driving the vehicle is my sister, she is horrified and devastated by this incident. She is physically hurt but far more emotionally and mentally hurt by what happened. She was in NO WAY IMPAIRED in any way - she was not under the influence of anything and was not distracted in any way while driving - we still have no idea why Richard threw himself at her car in the dark in the middle of the night and why he attempted to do it to several cars before hers but it was very obvious that he was blatantly attempting to take his own life. Again, I sympathize with all hurt by the loss of a friend and family member but please realize that a completely innocent very much loved and respected sister, mother, daughter, & teacher has had her entire life / world thrown upside down by this incident. She has lost her income, her car, and has no medical insurance and no way to pay for much needed counseling. She is extremely traumatized. Her son recently enlisted in the Navy and is stationed in Japan protecting our Country but is seeking Red Cross help to let him come home for a couple weeks to help his mom through this. Our community is coming together to try and support and fund raise for her to get medical attention as soon as possible. If anyone would like to help in any way please email me at SUPPORTBRIDGET@AOL.COM

Again, Myself, my family, and Bridget send our condolences to Richards family and friends.

Please help Bridget through this time SUPPORTBRIDGET@AOL.COM

I would appreciate anyone who could possibly give me some information about Richard "Shaggy" that may help explain why this happened by emailing me at so information is kept private for the respect of all involved. Im looking for anything that can help Bridget and all who love her come to terms with this and attempt to begin the healing process. So far we know nothing.

Hi Dawna,
I'm sorry to hear about your sister. I think you should get a lawyer and sue "shaggies" estate.

Unfortunately, it sounds like all you will get is a handful of IOU's and some half eaten physcadelic mushrooms.

@ Mr. Mossberg - Its such a sad unfortunate situation, I just wish his choice didnt have to involve an innocent person - I fear for her future now. I do thank God I still have my sister and she wasnt taken from us and that there were no other victims - considering how well traveled Hwy 4 is it very well could have been a much worse outcome such as a family or children in her car etc. Im trying to keep from becoming super bitter but with each day that passes and I dont see my sister getting any better yet its hard to stay positive.

I can't believe some of the stuff I'm reading on here Richard was a great father friend and person. I see a lot of negative stuff he was the father to my children. I know he was not taking his life. I'm sorry your sisters life is destroyed but so is my kids. This was an accident.

Im sorry for your loss and your chikdrens my heart aches for yoy all. She was not the first car he jumped in front of - the person he jumped in front of before her stayed on scene and he states he attempted to jump in front of his truck as well but he was able to swerve and miss him by inches. Im not trying to argue he wasnt a wonderful man thats not my place all im saying is my sister as well as his loved ones and is absolutely devastated. Im not sure if you were referring to me when you said you cant believe what ypur reading or not but in no way do I mean any disrespect to anyone - I too do not want to see any judgements placed on either - just as people have made assumptions about his condition at time of incident they have done the same to my sister who was in no way impared ir distracted and I'd like to remind everyone that 2 families lives have forever changed abd please stop jumping to conclusions and respect both families please.

I worked with Richard and was shocked and saddened to hear about what happened to him. He was a great guy.

This is truly sad for everyone involved. It doesn't make much sense if this poor man tried to jump in front of other vehicles why no one stopped to find out what he was doing especially if another vehicle missed him by inches. This woman yes might be devastated but she is still alive and most people would take some time off work to regroup but to say she lost her income? This man lost his life. Who is going to help pay for his 3 chilren? Not Bridget she is trying to have the community pay for her bills. That is crazy. If anyone is going to donate anything it should be to Richards family to help his children out.

You can google his name and see the account set up for him.

I didn't know Richard but our prayers are with HIS family and will donate to his account.

Bridget get some help and get a JOB!

@ Suzie the next time you want to attack someone that you do not know anything about you should probably attack with facts and not your personal opinions.

1. Bridget is employed and actually was leaving her second job when this happened!
2. The person he jumped in front of prior to Bridget went to flag a cop down and when he found a cop he and the officer raced back to where Richard was last seen but unfortunately he had already jumped in front of Bridget. Im not sure how that doesnt make sense to you? Apparently you are not familiar with HWY 4 in Discovery Bay - It is in the middle of nowhere, very dark, cars travel at very high rates of speed (it is a Highway) and it was the middle of the flipping night! I certainly wouldnt stop to check on a man who was acting abnormally at that location and at that time of night! I would have done exactly what the other witnesses did - call 911 and or flag a cop down!

I feel very deeply as does Bridget for Richards children as no child deserves to loose a parent and its even more heart wrenching when children loose a parent by the parents own choice. I will not address the opinions I have about the deceased after viewing his facebook page and his pictures on facebook because I do not want his family to have to read any negativity directed towards him its not the time or place for that - they have suffered enough. But some of the pictures explain why he may have been out in the middle of the highway at 12:20 am. Because the only thing that doesnt make sense is why he was where he was in the first place - again its a highway, it is in the middle of nowhere at least 20 or more miles from his home town, there was no nearby vehicle, there is no lighting in the area he was in.

The last thing id like to respond to is your opinion that Bridget is limited to a couple days healing time - id like you to try going through what Bridget went through - a full size man jumping face first out of nowhere in the dark and quiet into your windshield arms spread wide open flying at your car as you are going 55mph and have no warning or time to try and stop or swerve to miss this person, have him come through your windshield, create an incredible impact and a vision that wont leave your mind because ive hit a bird before and been shook up for a couple days - I couldnt imagine going through what Bridget has especially when it was done on purpose and had been attempted at least a documented 2 times prior unsuccessfully!

As far as Bridget trying to have the community pay for her bills that is completely incorrect! She has not asked for one penny! We live in an amazing small close knit community that takes care of each given this help so she can heal and return to her already stressful job without the added stress of an accident that she has no fault in.

As far as who is going to help his children? Social Security is just one fund that is out there for children left in these unfortunate situations - don't get me wrong I sympathize for his children but having children is one very good reason not to inflict self harm. Bridget choose none of this and there are no funds out there to help her. Her jobs will be there for her when shes ready to return but it is not her fault they do not offer health insurance or pay into disability - for these reasons we have chosen to raise funds for her wile shes healing emotionally and physically.

I think the person who needs to 'get some help' here is you, Suzie. Several of the comments you made about the unfortunate person driving the car are downright rude. Have you ever hit & killed a person while you were driving? Probably not, so there's no way you could know how something like this could affect one's emotional well-being. People deal with tragedies in many different ways, not just the way you think you would deal with it.'Taking time off work to regroup' might be all you would need, but for many others, the emotional toll could last indefinitely. No reason for you to be so mean about the fact that Bridget might not think the same way you do.

You are being very judgmental, as if the car driver was somehow at fault. NEWS FLASH: In NO way, shape or form was it her fault - he chose to jump in front of her car, making it 100% HIS fault. It could've been anyone driving that car that night at that spot, even you. But Bridget became the unlucky one thanks to the selfish act of another.

Lastly, your comment about stopping to find out what he was doing..... Are you really serious?? That's ridiculous!! Can you honestly say that if you were driving late at night, on a dark, desolate road with practically no one else around and someone jumped in front of you and you missed hitting him by inches, you would pull over and ask him what he was doing? If you would - knowing you would be alone on a dark road with someone acting crazy - then you must have a lot of guts. Not many people would do that, myself included. I'd get the heck outta there & call 911.

Dawna - I feel so bad for your sister and I just wanted to say that your response to Suzie was very respectful & very nicely written. I think most people would've told Suzie to stick it where the sun don't shine!! My family will keep yours in our thoughts and prayers.

For the record, I don't know either of the people (nor any of their friends/families) that were involved.
