So share with us how YOU would have made a difference with the outcome of this fire? How would you have managed the response? Amuse me.

A tragedy appened here and people have responses like "the dept is less thana 1/2 mile up the street" really a family is suffering their oss of a loved one!
Maybe I took yuour response wrong but maybe u should have put mre sympathyinto your stupidity The water dept was out making "rounds" and they saw smokecoming from the house as they called it in the fire dept responded appropriately. This fire could have been happening for a bnit before it was noticed...what about the other residents no one looks out their windows and looks around the neighborhood...thats if u wanted to really get down & dirty here

The first thing I think of is that fact that someone actually took a moment out of their busy day to report it. I think everyone responded wonderfully. They got the department there as fast as they could. They got life-flight to land as fast as possible to transport. As for their neighbor not looking around, I find that very offensive. I am a neighbor and I was at work. A lot of people actually work and aren't around during the day. Not everyone can sit at home on topix for a living.

What a nice person you are! The house is not gone and is actually quite repairable from the look of things and the department is more than 1/2 a mile away but regardles made heroic efforts and both people left alive and were transported to the hospital.
Were you one of those firefighters that put all fear aside and entered that house to make a rescue while surrounded by smoke and flames? I bet not. It takes a real classy individual to make statements like you did.

All paid depts are a joke and waste of money. The clowns worry more about their 2nd and 3rd job than their 1st.

Volunteers do the job for nothing and we have to pay these clowns. Ur correct many have 2nd jobs because they go to the fire station to rest most of the time!

Volunteers do a great job, but you could add another 5 to 10 minutes on the response over Ilion's.

Ilion did a great job getting in and delivering both victims to the hospitals alive. It's ashame a faily lost a loved one, but I'm sure the hospital did everything they could also.

Can someone tell me why since we have a paid fire department and EMT's on site why the mayor was driving the ambulance? So now he has been spotted driving a plow truck, the water departments new ATV last summer and now the ambulance. What's next? Not sure the taxpayer should cover the liability associated with an inexperienced driver. The best part of this is the guy is disabled and can't turn his head so how does he do all this?

I would do a better job and not have to worry if some fireboy was stealing something from my house like some paid departments.

You should have stopped with "Can someone tell me why we have a paid fire department".
