Trying to educate lazy, rude, obnoxious kids and their equally rude, lazy, doubly obnoxious parent(s) makes 180 days seem like 365.

I went to the schools to. My teachers teached me some stuff so that is that anyway. I was in my classroom one time and I did a fart really bad. The teacher thought it was not me who done it. So the other gay kid got the trouble. so my teacher was the nice one. I like the teachers and the school. Stop saying the bad words

I never said that a teacher can't go to the bathroom, come on. I hope your mom feels better soon. If she is one of the 1 out of 10 good teachers then we need her to help fix this terribly broken system.
As for the other commenter, it doesn't matter if I think teachers are underpaid or not, they chose a career that doesn't pay much and never have. You can't expect good pay for a job that no one get good pay doing. I've heard the excuse many times that some teachers do it because they really believe in teaching, that's great, then they don't need to be paid to want to work so they also have no right to complain. You either work because you love what you do or you work for the money.
They pay of a public school teacher will always be low as long as people want to keep there taxes low that's a fundamental concept that anyone going into the teaching profession knows.
Underpaid?????? Puh-leeze! Do you have every holiday known to man off? Do you have a guaranteed pension? Do you work in the summer months? Their salaries are not low, their healthcare benefits are some of the best, come on! I know many teachers who tell me, on the sly, of course, that they chose teaching because of the pay and the time off and all the benefits, so stop all this nonsense! The public, other than people like you, actually realizes a few things now, so you cannot pull the wool over their eyes anymore. Unfortunately, our taxes here are sky high and keep rising so you are wrong! Look up what the average school costs are in America and you will find that Ilion/or whatever it's called now, the taxpayer pays more than 3 times what even a larger city pays per student and the kids sure aren't the ones getting better grades or graduation rates. So where's the money going? Take a guess. Better yet, check your facts before spewing nonsense. You must be a teacher or an ignoramus.

How did you get to be the genius you think you are? Oh yeah...you had teachers or probably dropped out after 8th grade so you are jealous of everybody who makes more money than you. Go to college and get a teaching degree if you think it is so easy...ignoramus.

Yes! In fact, last time I checked, all of the colleges were still open!

Clearly teachers around here are becoming millionaires on $60,000/ year. Yep.

Don't assume that you know what the job entails until you have first hand knowledge. It is not the bed if roses it may have once been and it hasn't been for quite some time. 180 work days /year no longer exists and teaching no longer includes just class room time. Please educate yourself before you speak. You may still form the same opinion, but you will be able to intelligently support it. Otherwise, you just appear ignorant and narrow minded.

Speaking of checking your facts and spewing nonsense, try a little yourself. Where else do you pay school taxes other than the Mohawk Valley ? Sky high as compared to what ? What other state do you pay school taxes in comparing Ilion to "America" ? What larger city school in upstate NY do you pay 3 times per student less in ? I am paying in some of those school districts and while they are certainly in better financial health than some of the valley schools and perform in the top 30 at worst in the upstate NY rankings, they are not "cheap" by any means.

Speaking of out of state schools in "America", the ones I paid taxes in were all county run schools and certainly their cost per student would be less because an entire county services a single school district, not single villages in a county each trying to finance a school themselves. The merger addresses some of that.

Local cost issues are caused by structural issues where there are simply too few taxpayers and too many school districts. Teacher pay here is below average and their benefits packages are below average as well. You can fire them all and it won't solve the problem.

Save it.....I am private sector worker all my life and have better pay and benefits than the teachers. I don't get all the days off they do, but it is an honorable profession and I am not in the business of bashing EVERYONE ELSE's salary and benefits. You think being a teacher is so wonderful, get your masters and hop to it !

No business being teachers based on what? That you/your kid didn't like them or didn't study very much when they had them for a teacher? By reading your post, we can at least see that you didn't study very hard in English class. People really like to stand behind a position that is presented by someone who writes worse than most 3rd graders! Lol!

Problem is this place is full of generational welfare and if parents don't care if their kids behave and do well in school then the kids don't care either. We don't have an education crisis in this country we have an ambition crisis. Why get up and work every day if the govt will pay you not to? I'm so sick of people on here bashing the schools and the teachers. They can't fix lazy and the reason "education" is so expensive today is that schools are providing all kinds of services and programs that USED to be the parents problem.
