"Students first " This is Michelle Rhees way of fixing our broken school system. The current way the schools are functioning is no longer working. If we dont correct the way our children are learning or not what will it matter where they are educated. The merger appears to be a temperary fix to an even bigger problem that is being over looked. We as parents and tax payers need to become educated to the system. We need to learn what our childrens rights are. We need to become educated as to what services our children are entitled to and what the school system should or should not be doing. Many students are being bullied out of school by the very education system that should be providing services to help them stay in school. The school system is broken I am worried about the future of everyone.

For starters, we all need to pay attention to what the administration does. We need a parent group that is a watchdog group.

Why is the merger a temperary fix??? And what is the bigger problem being over looked.

The school system is broke. Really? Here's why. The only reason we know this is the well has finally gone dry with state funding and the districts having to rely on taxes. Once that happened, the whole bloated sacred cow system was exposed for all to see. Frivilous spending on anything and everything. Payrolls that are top heavy and over staffed. People like Cos are finally having to show where all the money is going and why he is scrambling to merge. It's simple. Money. He and the district have overspent and now they don't have that revenue cash cow anymore. Now they have to account for all tha that spending and why the kids have to either go without or merge.

There has to be a good solution. Our county has lost the expectations that all children can learn and excel alog with our regard for teachers. There are teachers and there are educators and we need to keep the teachers who want to inspire and can make students have a thurist for knowledge and recognize the ones that do. I do not believe that just merging is the only solution. It has not worked in other places. I feel the education system needs to be shut down and rebuilt to catch the school system up to 2013. A updated school system that puts the student first and works to keep our children in school. A updated school system with computer note books to replace hard cover books. Computer classes so children can still attend school even if they can not be there or if they choose to become educated another way. A school system that wants to work with parents. There has to be a good resolution to this problem for our childrens sake. I dont have all of the answers but I feel with good educators, parents and students imput we can figure this all out in a way that will be cost effective so that all children can receive a great education where ever that may be.

I agree with you whole heartedly. There has to be a way we as tax payers can take the schools out of their hands. People have a way of becoming to comfortable in their jobs and they tend to forget why they were given the job in the first place. Our chidrens education is so concerning and their fate is in the hands of an education system that has drove it into the ground.

Just 2 examples...
The state pays for 80%+ toward transportation and if the school needs a new 100k school bus, by the time it's said and done the state will reimburse the system 90k. The bus cost the district 10k in the end. WE CAN'T AFFORD AND CAN'T TAKE BACK SHHT.
The state requires an academic minimum and our tax dollars can't begin to pay for the rock bottom requirements.
What are you people talking about.

If we the people come up with a good plan that will turn the education system around by saving money and providing a good education for all children the state will listen and even pay for the idea. There is no reason to become upset. Ideas are a good thing this is how we can trouble shoot the problem.A solution needs to be found and all ideas should be heard.

I know what I am talking about do you? I have researched where this has been done. You seemed to have proved my point about the education system. The way that you communicate with people is not very polite or respectful.

Where were you before the merger? You could have straightened the whole thing out years ago. Now that you have arrived, fly to board meetings around the valley and save us!!!

Researched what??? Talk talk talk and you offer nothing.

Cute. I am not talking about the merger. I am attempting to discuss the wrong that is being done to students in the current school system. If we merg or not there are problems that need to be corrected so that we can keep our children in school so that they can become productive members of society. That is the point I was trying to make. No need to be so rude. Can we not be polite to one another. I thought we could have polte conversation but I guess I was wrong so I will fly away now, bye.

spending is out of control and the previous admins were awful! as was the board.... why have ppl who work in other industries on the board? we need ppl who understand what's really involved, not the village drunks.

No, I actually think the one from Little Falls is right now that I think about it. Actually, the lack of parenting is a lot of the problem too. I know I am one of those parent that don't care what my kids do, who they hang out with, what drugs they do. I think there should be mandatory parenting classes every so often for crappy parents such as myself.

This entire thread is riddled with generalizations. No specific short comings of past or present school districts have been addressed. The rude poster from Little Falls responded to your general remarks and received no answer. The poster then offered a tidbit of school district financial fact and still no real reply. I'm thinking the LF poster isn't the drunk.
