The amount of people in Ilion that rely on the government for food stamps etc. is repulsive. I believe that there should be a welfare registry, like a sex offender registry, online which would show the people receiving these government subsidies and how much they get. If state workers' salaries are public information, shouldn't people on food stamps and all their glory with their classy "benefit" cards be public information as well? It makes complete sense. Why would someone who WORKS have their income as public information before someone who watches Jerry Springer in Colonial Manor all day? There should also be drug testing. If you need to be drug tested to get a job, I think it's safe to say that drug testing will suffice for eating tax payer subsidized moon pies all day. Welfare benefits are intended to get citizens back on their feet, not walk around Ilion all day with BO and fat flailing in all directions. I digress......

what i can't understand is why you can buy soda with food stamps. Mountain Dew, Pepsi, etc. -- zero nutritional value. makes no sense at all.

i dont agree with the registry or publishing names, but kicking their lazy asses off is a good idea. i know too many scammers who are able bodied and can work. instead they park those asses on the local bar stools and trade their food stamps for booze and crack. jds is reaping the benefits.

Perhaps an investigation into who is abusing the system would be a good idea, but unfortunately it is costly and time consuming. With the cuts that have been made, there is not the manpower to do these jobs and the lowlife "society owes me" people know this and play the odds. They know that they have a better chance of not getting caught than they do of getting caught. If you know that someone is scamming, turn them in. Be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Its your money being stolen.

some people (more now than ever are working full time jobs and get paid what amounts to be, below poverty level! no wonder they may need help! its the system that put them there in the first place. open your eyes people its not the little guys that got million dollar bonus' for failure!...stop letting the system manipulate the little guys against each other to keep from seeing the problem lies at the head!

I understand how many people abuse the system, but there are many more out there who actually need the help and cannot work due to their disabilities or other issues. I do not agree in people being able to live off of welfare for their entire lives if they are capable of working. Maybe they should have a limit on how long you can receive welfare for or have classes offered to get people to be able to work. They would then have marketable job skills, but people can work at McDonald's without having a diploma, so I think that if they can work they should work.

Most people getting help do work. Its corporate america that doesnt want to pay anyone a living wage. You try renting a apartment for 600 bucks and raise a living family at 10 bucks a hour. That is 2 weeks pay . Then you have to pay heat electric and buy food. Yep them people got it good. We need unions in every work place.

no, actually I'm talking about able bodied people that claim to be unable to work so they can collect benefits, people that receive housing assistance and abuse that by having their "husband/wife" (who have an income that isn't claimed) and his/her family live with them, people that have more children than they can support or parent in an effort to receive more benefits, and people that work "under the table" while still collecting. I understand that there is a need for assistance, but it is called temporary assistance for a reason! Use it if/when it is needed but use it for what it was intended, temporary assistance, not a a lifetime of public support.

DO YOU KNOW HOW TO READ? The person i was talking about is working. Get your head out if your ass and wake up. Why don't you complane about our tax money money that goes to big business every day. I know why. Because you watch fox news. Rich people paying rich people to tell you its the poor mans fault. Now go back and read my p o s t s l o w l y i know it may take time to sink in but you can do it. And why do you think unions suck? Is it because you think workers shouldnt have a safe work place ir maybe get payed a wage we can live on? Or do you think we should bow down to our masters.

We have become a society of broken and damaged people. Look around. So many disabled people that the rest of us have to take care of because they are "entitled".. Not just physically damaged, but mentally damaged as well. I am not referring to people born with disabilities but those who have acquired them. Smokers who are sucking the system for their medications and treatments and multiple hospitalizations because they refuse to quit or it's too late for them to quit. Others who are addicted to prescription meds because they cannot suffer ANY pain so we get to pay for their resulting medical needs. They shop around for any Dr. who will fall for the line. and most will to avoid a lawsuit. How about all those obese who cannot even walk through the grocery store. Any idea how many chronic conditions are cause by obesity? Let's see, bad knees, can't breathe, sleep apnea, diabetes. I could go on and on as I see it everyday. These are the ones who are on welfare cause they cannot possibly earn their own way.
