one of Ilion's finest was drunk as a skunk this weekend. Drove and got in an accident. Broke a telephone pole and tried to run and got caught in Ilion. I guess his last one in 04 didn't teach him anything. Now I wonder how the chief and the mayor are going to cover up this one? He should loose his license and should loose his job. Do we need a fireman to drive a ambulance or a fire truck with out a drivers license? Way to go A.M. see you at the next AA meeting.

Maybe you should quit worrying about other people's business and go take a grammar lesson "taxpayer". Loose means something is not tight. So should he have a loose license and a loose job? I believe the word you are looking for is "lose". Why don't you mind your own business, quit judging others, and find something more positive and productive to do with your time?

Firefighters in Ilion (and probably other towns) have the reputation of being big drinkers. Most of them are left alone when they're on the road because they are part of the brotherhood --- a known fact. This one was outside that "protection", to a point, because there was an accident involved. Yes, it will be interesting to see what transpires from here going forward...

Interesting. You'd think that it would make the local papers. All other DWIs do, especially when there's a vehicle accident involved. Hmmmmmmmm.

Excuse me "uneducated taxpayer" but "tax payer" is minding his business as his tax money pays for these losers. If the conduct of a village "professional" is not the tax payers business who's business is it? You might do well to complain about it as well instead of wasting time complaining about the misuse of a word. And, you were judging him. Pot calling the kettle black?

I am not saying this man was not wrong. but what about all the other people that are arrested for dwi. should they also lose their jobs at the place they work? I think he should be suspended for some time, but he is no different then any one else that gets arrested for it. if this cost him his job, then it should be done for all. how about the people that are running their month on here. lose your job if you get nailed. I bet you would have a different tone then.

If you got a DWI, would you loose your job???? I know many people who have gotten a DWI and do not loose their job. If he continues to have a job, I'm pretty sure he will not be drinking while on the job. So if your house is on fire or you or a family member need medical assistance let me tell you he will be the first one there. I'm sure you wouldnt deny him to save your burning house or a family member who is dying, just because he got a DWI. Am I right????? Just because he got a DWI that does not take away all the good things he has done the past years of being on the fire department. What a fireman, policeman, the lady at the grocery store, and all the men/women at remington arms do on their own time is their business. Everyone complaining about what this fireman did (ON HIS OWN TIME)dont think he will get off easy. He will have to pay big time.

I am a taxpayer thats who I think I am and I want a firefighter to jump in the truck to come to my house if it is on fire. I don't want him to have to blow into a machine first though. And I wouldn't lose my job because I don't have a job that I answer to the taxpayers for, I work in the private sector and don't have to drive as part of my job, add that to the fact that I am smart enough not to get behind the wheel bombed so I don't have to worry about a dwi, I only have to worry about my family that might have been on the road the same time this guys wrecked.

It doesn't matter what anyone thinks on here plus there has already been a precedent set for the Ilion firefighters when they get arrested and sentenced to jail, or any other trouble. they keep their job their benefits and the whole deal too bad the rest of village employees don't get that ask dubbs or spaman.

I'm also a taxpayer but what he does on his own time is his business not yours or mine!!! Firemen do not have to answer to you!!!! Thankfully he did not hurt anyone or himself..To me that is the most important thing!!! Him getting a DWI does not mean he cant fight a fire or save a life any differently. Let him continue to do his job just as good as he did before!! Stop thinking because you are a "taxpayer" they owe you something!!! They are there for a job that they love to do just like you go to your job daily. No one there owes you a thing! You do you job and get a check, thats what he does! Him getting a DWI does not put a damper on his work skills. So stop throwing the "I'm a taxpayer" line.

What anyone does on their own time is their business unless it affects everyone else, I heard he hit a pole and severed it. and you are wrong, public employees are under a much tighter scrutiny than private sector employees, you are full of $h!t if you think public employees don't owe you anything. You must be one. Firefighters are supposed to protect and serve, who was this guy protecting that night? and from what you write, who is he protecting now, except his own azz.

This does not affect you in any way! Who cares what you heard! I must be full of shit!!! I dont expect anything from them unless it consits of their job titile! firemen do their job when they are on duty or get called in. Just becuase they are a public employees that does not mean they can not live their life and have their own issues. They are normal people just like you! For your information I am not a fireman! I'm sure he is protecting his own azz....Anyone in this kind of situation would. Thats just a silly question.

Ok then answer this, how many minutes does it take off response time when you have to blow in the machine to start it? That might affect me.

if a firemen has to blow in to a machine, then lets get the ambulance crews, police, street dept. electric commission, village board. come on now, what he did was wrong and he will have to pay dearly for it but let it go. enough is enough. hell look at what a president of the united states did. did they through him out .

Why do they all have to blow? Did they all get DWIs? If so, then yes, they should all have to blow into the vehicle that they drive for the village after a DWI. I'm not letting it go, way too much gets "let go" in this village especially the money pit we call the fire department. At least when he blows into the machine to start the vehicle it will be a brand new one, oh God don't get me started.........
And what if he can't drive after he costs the taxpayers thousands on court time? Is it still ok to keep his job? He can't perform a very important duty, driving a vehicle, and still keeps his job? What about motor vehicle insurance how much does that increase with a DWI driver on the village payroll? Think it through james(or should I say John)this whole thing stinks and the village board better be on top of it and looking out for the TAXPAYERS not that one individual. he doesn't even live in the village.

I don't believe what someone does on their own, unpaid time is our business. Are you telling me that what you do on your own, unpaid time is the business of all owners or stockholders for your employer-assuming you have one, of course. Also, then let's by all means judge the mayor, every village board member, every employee of the light commission, every member of the police department, every member of the street department, and every member of that fire department including the one that served time in federal prison. Since tax dollars pay for garbage and recycling, I say post the personal business for the employees at the recycling center. Oh my gosh! How could I forget the county and state highway crews? Let's not forget all of the employees of Herkimer County!! We pay county property and sales tax! Their personal business is our business too!!! Good Lord! I think it is time to go back to public flogging, wearing scarlet letters, and posting names in the public square! Look at all the people who now are our business and our responsibility as taxpayers!!!
