I'm pretty sure he can't run for anything due to being a twice felon! The only thing he runs is his mouth. His father is a good man whom is trying to get on with life after being disgraced time and time again by this moron.

Todd is nothing but a loud mouth bully!!! I know so many who have dealt with the wrath of Todd Gookins. His Ex was lucky to get the hell away from that one. I feel sorry for his present wife. And his rants about his Dad. I think there is some MAJOR mental issues going on with ole Todd. Scary.

Lets all get behind Todd for mayor he could do all the body work on the village vehicles. He can forge every ones name on important papers. He is just about as smart as our past mayor. He could teach all the village youth how to play baseball. Maybe doozer could be a tustee [ or Lori ]. We know he would be good with money. TODD FOR MAYOR he needs a job!!!!!!!!!!

You sound like you hold, One of the positions that IL TOWN, mentioned. It's not the same as living here. We see all the roads in disrepair. Look at Barringer Road, and Main street as well as several other streets. Thy just redone 4th street off of Otsego street last year and now it's pot holes again. Was'nt Barringer road done just a few year ago. If we don't elect, some one how cares you will see more house's for sale.
There are potholes in every town and village across the Northeast. It has nothing to do with the village. It has everything to do with the extreme cold we have had over the winter. Water gets under the pavement and freezes, causing the roads to heave and eventually crack and break a part, resulting in pot holes. It will be very costly to fix as blacktop is petroleum product. Municipalities only have so much money allocated for roads. Ilion I believe has around 30 miles of road at a cost of a million dollars per mile to pave a road. You can do teh math.

Mother Nature,
Use your head for something other than a hat rack. Nature does not cause pot holes when the village slams the plow blade on the road. look at roads that are done by pro's not the village and they are not full of pot holes. Look at some of the highways that are done by the state or roads in town that were done before the village started doing them they are not full of pot holes. 4th street and Barringer were both done by the village. 4th street was just done last summer. If the village would stop paying such ridiculous salaries they would have the money to fix the streets right, maybe even professionally. The summer village idiots fill in the pot holes, and the winter village idiots slam the plow blades and dig it up. Maybe some can be blamed on Mother Mature causing the roads to heave, but you can't tell me that she caused the pot holes alone.

With reparing streets or anything else, you get what you pay for. The "cheap" remilling and only taking care of the top few inches of most of these roads is equivalent to a band- aid on a gashin wound; Politicians window dressing.
Curbs need to be in good condition, manholes and sewer in good working repair.More of a comprehensive approach of maintenance is the answer. Perhaps some of that $200,000 fund balance should be allocated yearly to streets and sewer repair. It's called diligence and discipline, something that has been lacking for years.

DPW chief wants to spend money on a truck to use even more of the "cheap" stuff to fill potholes. Anyone who thinks this is a good idea needs to look at Henry Street. The entire street was paved with this stuff last Summer & immediately you could tell it was a cheap fix. It started falling apart after the first hard frost & is now impassable. Buses were sinking into the street! We need a clean up of the elected offices & the others who are wasting our tax money. Get out & get involved!

When looking at and considering candidates remember this, bartenders may be good at serving drinks, car salesmen at selling cars, and others at playing sports, all this is fine if we were looking to pick a buddy to complete a pick up game, purchase a used vehicle, or make a mixed drink, but we are not. As has been stated by "Smitty" and others, the Mayor is in charge of Village operations and the Trustees fiscal stewardship of the people's money.
This should mean an ideal Mayoral candidate should know about department operations, collective bargaining, and management; Trustees should be those who have shown good fiscal management ability in eitheir their public or private endeavors.Do we currently have this? Lets hope someone will step forward who does, and then support them.

If you read the latest comments by our current mayor, you will see that she has no idea of what fiscal responsibility is about. If she ran a business the way she and the board are running the village it would be out of business. How much more stress does she think the village residents can take when she herself stated that village income in shrinking yet she wants to raise taxes to make up the short fall. If she and the board had any brains, the answer is cut the cash cow expenditures like bloated salaries and benefits to village workers. How many of you Ilion residents, who pay property taxes, got 2 and 3 % raises? Because of the tax and spend mentality, the picture will not change. As long as the board has tax payers they can continually bleed with higher taxes each year, the village employees will benefit and the village residents will be broke. Notice I didn't say the village will benefit. The lack of proper infrastructure development and maintainence will continue in a downward spiral that it is now.
And Chuck states that the state says we are not fiscally stressed?
No surprise here. If the state uses the same criteria to judge state soundness as they do villages, then everything is rosie to them in Ilion.
Answer: With the tax base shrinking and revenue declining raise the taxes without any concern. That's the State and Village answer.

Wonder what the qualifications are for a Mayor or a Board Member other than the power, attention: a part time position: You get what you pay for-how much is a Mayor paid? a Trustee paid? Is there a credit check-health exam? any testing for educational requirements/communication-man agement skills? The truth of the matter is, the Village cannot afford to pay what a pre-qualified-full time person/persons would expect for the job requirments: unless or until consolidation is taken seriously with the Villages we will continue to struggle. Take a ride around the Villages: everything looks worn out.
