Pa. senator to introduce bill to legalize marijuana
January 09, 2013 1:14 pm The Sentinel
State Sen. Daylin Leach, D-Montgomery/Delaware, Wednesday announced plans to introduce legislation that would legalize marijuana in Pennsylvania, according to a news release from his office. The bill is currently circulating for co-sponsoring.
This past November, the people of Washington State and Colorado voted to fully legalize marijuana, Leach said in a statement.Other places, including California, have had de facto legalization for some time. This week, I will introduce legislation which would have Pennsylvania join these other states in ending this modern-day prohibition. My bill will legalize the consumption of marijuana for adults over the age of twenty one, without regard to the purpose of that consumption.
Leach previously introduced a bill that would allow the use of medical marijuana by eligible patients in the state.
In a statement to the media, Leach said the current marijuana policy is costly, citing the billions of dollars spent investigating, prosecuting, incarcerating and monitoring millions of our fellow citizens who have hurt no one, damaged no property, breached no peace.
Leach said that marijuana is less dangerous than beer, less risky than childrens cough syrup, less addictive than chocolate and whose social harm comes from its prohibition rather than its use.
Cuomo needs to get his act together. Just about every state surrounding NYS has it or is going to make it legal. And everything that this senator states is true. It's safer than just about ANY substance out there --- including aspirin, that kills 1000 people per year. WAKE UP, NYS!

NYS benefits highly on the incarceration of border hoppers bringing the drugs over from canada....so dont plan on it being legal in NY anytime soon.

with 10,000 unemployed police officers, probation officers, drug counselors, prison guards, lawyers, judges, etc, etc, etc.?????
MJ prohibition supports an entire industry of unnecessary public 'intervention'.

And that's exactly what it is --- intervention into one' own personal life. You really want to stir the pot (no pun intended)? Make alcohol and tobacco illegal tomorrow and start to arrest everyone that uses them. Then and only then will people realize how stupid and unjust it is to have cannais illegal.
And let's not forget what substances kill over 100,000 U.S. citizens a year, destroy thousands of lives and families, and costs the American taxpayer millions up millions of dollars every year in health costs.
Hint: It ain't cannabis.
