WOW!Charge a $30 fee to those who are utilizing the program and income eligible for State free lunch programs! Kind of a contradiction of terms and policy don't you think.

Village Board show some initative, care, and accountability and make up for the fiscal shortfall in other bloated budgets or through cooperations with other State, Federal, and County agencies.

This is not any different for many other municipalities. Go to other places and it is hundreds of dollars to have a kid attend a summer program not only $30. The lunch program has nothing to do with the summer program, they are 2 separate programs!

You would think all that wood they cut at the park , the closing of the pools would cover that.

Why not let the kids whose parent's actually work go for free?
The families where one or both parents sit home because they are too lazy to work should not get a free ride.
Give up a 30 pack or a couple packs of cigs...

I agree. At least then the taxpayer would be getting something back for all the taxes that get taken out of our paychecks. Take a look at these housing projects in Ilion. The kids MAY be in need of some things but the parents seem to be able to afford, cell phones, dvd players, stereos, cigs, beer, junk food, and other non-essential items.
These people don't really know what it's like to have real needs because the taxpayer is right there to put a roof over their head, food on their table, and job training (if they can get off their stinky arses to pursue some type of training). Anybody that truly wants to get off these "assistance programs" can --- the problem is that they don't have any desire to --- they'd end up having to, um, work...

I thought the $30 fee was too high. I used to live in Ilion--I actually grew up there. On a side note, I always wondered why no one in the village administration seemed to care about the, "Big Pool", closing. I know it needed extensive and costly repairs, but did the Rec dept., and/or the village explore the possibility of fund raising, federal grants, etc. to cover the repair or to build another municipal pool. Maybe they did---I don't know. But it just seemed a rotten shame that after generations, no pool for the public. What exactly does the Rec dept provide?---other than a few flics in the Summer at the library and a few arts and craft at a few playgrounds. Yes, I know Ilion has Russel Park.

Chuckles, Gook Sr., etc.
"Chuckles" and "Gook Sr." are not on the rec commission. They are on the MUB board and just happened top be included in the picture

I don't mind the $30 fee at all. A very small price to pay to have something fun and different for the kids to do during the summer.

On another note: Does anyone know WHERE sign ups are being held? I got a flyer from the kiddo's school that says sign ups are Weds the 5th from 6-8pm & Satthe 8th from 9am-11am but it doesn't say where to go.

Thanks for any info!(:

$30 for a summer program too much? Your kidding right? What else can you do for a summer for 30 bux? Maybe if the fat unemployed partents gave up a pizza and a 30 pack their kids could have a good summer with their friends

Really 30$ for kids to go to the playground and get a pbj sandwich and milk? Any kid can go to the park and play with there friends! But to pay for something that the village gets grants for is really sad! Feed your own kids at home and let them go to the park to play with there friends!!What is wrong with village officials? There is really nothing for kids to do anymore!Nothing at the park worth 30$$$$

The $30 fee is to cover the costs of field trips and arts and crafts that are done during the summer NOT for use of the park. The lunch is provided by the school not the village. Sign ups are at the Municipal Building.

Ilion is not known to be the recipient of many grants. Guess it's a true reflection of the mayor and some of the nuts that fill out the paperwork. It would be nice if a grant did come through to update the parks and provide something for the area youth.
