Kids can't read or write but they can play football. That will get a chosen few a better life but what of the majority?

A common senario: Player is game MVP. Gets interviewed on tv and can't be understood when speaking. He most likely came from a school where the school population was approximately 2000 or more. Academically he is an idiot but gets passed through because he's a star. Goes to college with scholarship but gets passed through because he's a star. What's the major? Communications.
Be a responsible parent and assist your child to read/write. Don't rely on the system to do so.

Yes vote No. Rumors are that ilion is bailing the other schools out. Listen people. The money is not guaranteed. It is bull. Herk will save 300.00 in taxes for one year until all administration gets their raises because they complain there is too much to manage. Next year taxes will go up.
Lies haven't work in the last two votes and they won't work in this one...what a dk...

I guess I'm a stupid old timer, but what does a
high school drinking party have to do with the
merger. P.S. At the school where my son coaches
football (a school that graduates over 300
students) the MVP and star of the football
team last year had his choice of going to
Harvard or Yale.He chose Yale. "Truth", stereo-
typing at least makes you a stupid person, at
most makes you a bigot or racist.

its about lessons in life. if there were herkimer kids there, yes they should be out, they all signed a code of conduct. steele does a good job in football, but not a good roll model. how many of you players, moms and dads, former players. have said i want my kids to be like coach steele? good job on the field. now, we were talking about kids at a party. and you no votes on the merger always get off track. so i think your no votes is because of sports. yes the money to merge is there, yes better education, yes taxes will hold there own for afew years. why should we vote no? what do we get for our tax doller? we cut programs just to get a yes vote on the budget.

You mean the high school in CT that has 100 kids on the football team?

So, if your kids participate in sports, they are doomed to be mindless jocks? Thats like saying if your son joins Theater Club or Choir he is a wimpy gay. Makes no sense and far from the truth. Your of the opinion that people can't be good parents and let their kids participate in sports. I beleive in academics over sports, but sports can play an important role in a childs up-bringing, for one it teaches teamwork.

It's narrow-minded thinking like yours that solidifies my thinking that a YES Vote to the merger is the right thing to do. Keep talking, you'll likely change some others opinions!!

The poster did not say that all athletes are mindless jocks. Yes voters bullying again....the poster said it's a 'common scenario'. And if you're saying it doesn't happen then you, along with ole timer, are liars.

It's been proven that ole timer is a liar. He claimed there were 100 kids on his son the coach's football team. Then, when someone looked it up, he had to admit that it is 100 kids spread out over THREE football teams. Yes people, making up lies and bullying people to sway the vote.

Has anyone else noticed how this merger conversation is already tearing communities apart? How it's made enemies of former friends and neighbors? Vote NO to this sham. Make them offer alternatives!!

Thank you, poster #28. It is indeed true the government is attempting to tear this community apart. In many ways, it already has. The government is once again sticking it in the people's asses and by the looks of the straw vote, too many like it. There are many who didn't vote 3 weeks ago. Hopefully they will now and realize voting NO to push back for administrative restructuring.

In addition, my Common Scenario is more common in small town Jerkwater, USA if your kid has a certain name. That always makes a difference.

From information I have, there are parties every weekend and I know of two football players (one from West Canada and one from Herkimer) who attend every weekend. It's not just in Ilion. Also, know of a couple of Dolgeville's guys that go. On Monday, these kids are planning where they are parting the next weekend.

Role- Check the Yale football roster; you will
find a freshman named Sebastian Little from
Cheshire, Conn. Also, check his credentials.
Again, I will give you concrete information;
you simply call people names. P.S. Again, my
question was, "What do high school drinking
parties have to do with a merger?"P.P.S.
"Bystander" if you have all of this inform-
ation, why aren't you reporting it to the
state police?

The poster was stereo-typing sports participants, many of which have gone on to achieve excellent academics and careers. Any student sports or not, can fail to learn to their true potential.
Yes my I have a kid involved in sports but I'm still in favor of this opportunity. I have heard all sides, all of the arguements and emotions, after everything I come away with the opinion that one thing matters, kids and their opportunities.
I found in speaking with my own kids that they are much better prepared to handle a merger than most of the parents I've talked to about the subject.

I also find it interesting that this forum on a teen party, quickly turned into a VOTE NO campaign.

OK so what Parent bought the beer and hosted the party? Oh that's right "I was not home and found the large group at my house when I returned". That story has been told way to many times. Give me a break, mom and dad bought the beer, told junior only a few kids and it got out of hand. Truth starts with the parents. I still think that it was wrong that the Frankfort kids Homecoming weekend was wrecked because of this mess. Why not suspend Ilion players from Ilion's Homecoming game. What a SLAP in the face for Ilion Central, I hope that the police arrest the parents.

Also a slap in Frankforts face when the partiers went to their homecoming dance!! Should have not been able to participate in any school activites!!! Parents should have grounded their ass!!
