Why are we as taxpayers allowing the two top paid people in the Ilion Police Department to work at the same time? If it isn't common knowledge, open your eyes Ilion! The Chief and the Captain have the same work schedule - Monday thru Friday, during the day! As I recall, the old Captain used to work in the evening and on the weekends, at least that is when I used to see him work. Why do the two main supervisors work at the same time, does that make any sense?? If anyone has an explanation for this, I would love to hear it.

Doesn't make any sense to me. If there are 2 supervisors on during the day shift, who supervises the officers that work different shifts? Sounds to me like the captain and the chief have pretty nice arrangements there. Monday thru Friday, bankers' hours! Part of being a police officer is taking on crappy hours, right? How come they both get to work the same shift? Anyone??

Thank You Sk8... the rest of the pepole who work there must have to work "crappy" hours, because as far as I know, the police have to work 24 hrs a day - 7 days a week, not eight hours a day - 5 days a week. If all 24 hrs in a day have to be worked, doesn't make sense to have your supervisors split up?

Well, I'm not a police officer, but I've had enough jobs in my time to know that if subordinates are working, then there should be a supervisor present. Are they relying on the honor system of the officers to make sure everything gets done the way it's supposed to while they're working? Who handles crises, should they arise while the captain and chief are asleep in their beds and the guys with less time on the job are on the streets? I don't know, Dig, doesn't make much sense to me.

UPD does not let all of its supervisors work the day shift. You will find one captain on 8-4, one captain on 4-12, they used to put one on mid-8, and I think they even have a captain working an overlapping shift like a 2pm-10pm or something similar.
The assignment of police personnel is at the discretion of the Chief.

How many captaons does UPD have? I know that Ilion only has one, and that is the problem, only one other main supervisor working at the same time the chief does. Where is the chief anyways, even chief licari used to walk around the village a little, or go out in the car.

Sk8 - I am sure that the supervisors are on call, and that they are available for crisis, but I want to know why its set up that way. If a business has staffing to utilize at its discretion, then why doesn't the Ilion police department? It all just seems a little odd, but who am I to say??

As if things weren't messed up enough, I was just recently informed that the captain has a lawsuit against the village. UMM?? What the heck?!?! Why would the village of Ilion employ someone who is suing them?? How messed up is this place, is going to be like Frankfort soon (corruption)??

Why would you think the Ilion Police have only two supervisors? They do have sergeants.

Your "dig deeper" attitude does not seem to fit
If I am not mistaken after being a life long resident of Ilion -- and following our services very closely ....I believe the police department has three sergeants (who rotate shifts). And I did some checking through the Evening Telegram archives and the Captain filed some type of a complaint with Human Rights (?) for a violation allegation. However I have found nothing recent on that ,nor a decision.
That seemed to be in the old days with the convict from frankfort for a police chief and the walking corpse we had for a mayor. Whole new board now - seems to be "for the people"

ILION IS A SMALL TOWN BUT REMINGTON ARMS HAS SUPPORTED MY FAMILY SINCE DAY ONE WHEN MY HUSBAND STARTED WORKING THERE 25 YEARS AGO. I SEE THAT POLICE OFFICER EVERYDAY DIRECTING TRAFFIC --- I JUST THINK THOSE GUYS DO A NICE JOB. MY FAMILY HAS HAVE NEVER NEEDED THE POLICE IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION ,BUT ALWAYS SEE THEM UP AND DOWN THE STREET CONSTANTLY. AS FAR AS THE FIRE DEPARTMENT -- WE NEEDED THEM FOR MY MOTHER ONCE WHO HAD A STORKE AND THEY WERE EXCELLANT WITH WITH AND THE CARE SHE RECEIVED.

Della3 --> I know that there are sergeants working around the clock, we see them all the time. The issue is not with the sergeants, it is with the fact that putting the chief and the captain on the same shifts seems redundant. I know for a fact that the retired captain used to work the evening shift, what was the problem with that? To me, I would rather have as many personnel as possible spread out as evenly as possible around the clock. That makes sense. You are right, there was some sort of human rights complaint filed, and no recent mention of it, does that mean it is still on the table? I would like to know.
As for the officers, you are correct, they do a great job and are always around whether you need them or not. I feel comfortable knowing that the cops are always just around the corner. Lets keep on track with the postings Della3

OK I did some checking with my friend who is friends with a police officer and he said that when your talking about the old Captain being on the evening shift that is true, however, there was also an additional sergeant working dayshift and his title was techinal sergeant. He worked days with the the Chief of Police. Now the Police Board eliminated that position and just has the Captains position, Chief, Investigator, three (instead of four) sergeants and patrol officers. With two dispatchers who are not cops.(?) I guess the point is clear that you make that they are on the same shift, does it matter I think the Chief of Police should know what he is doing --- not like those problems in Frankfort. I believe (or hope) all the officers have passed whatever tests it is that they take and I, for one, am very pleased with the Ilion Police Department.

That village was messed up because of the former chief. Atleast a Frankfort Police Officer who took an oath as an officer didn't try to cover up a crime. Do you know why an there is an apparent law suit?????From what my understanding is from rumors around the villages is that that employee that is apparently suing the village has good reasons. Hat's off to them. Maybe you should learn the fact's and not judge till you know the whole truth. That's why the old chief and mayor are GONE!!!!!!!!!!

Lets not cast accusations about knowing all the facts shall we.... you obliously do not know the whole story, and I, for one, will not be the one spew it out to someone as uninformed as you are. If a person can open a lawsuit against the very place that provides their paychecks, and then get a promotion---> doesn't that seem a little fishy??

"DigDeeper" I would assume that you were probably the former mayor, former chief or maybe possibly one of the ones stuff to there _SSes during crime with them. If your not one of them your probably their spouse. Having a law suit against someone is not a bad thing! You need to DIG DIPPER for all the facts before you judge. If you were that person I bet you'd do the same too!!!!
