Sidney, NE is a small town and I admit I do enjoy living in a town that does not have to be afraid of gangs with guns and so many other things that larger towns are exposed to; however, it does have its disadvantages. Sidney can be a very based rumor town and it has a tendency to condemn people for the smallest of mistakes. It can be very one sided depending on who's side you are on. If one person decides that you are worthless depending on the status of the person spreading the rumors it tends to spread with no truth. It also depends on how wide and loud the persons mouth is. For those that stand back quietly and observe thier surroundings and live their lives it can be hard. I think it is wrong that someone can defame your character and get away with it because one does not want to take part in childish games. I think its wrong that someones kindness gets put into shame because they refuse to talk trash. Some people in this town thrive on the weak. Some people talk about how they believe in the community and support it yet within their homes they try to destroy those living in it.

Never been to Sidney. I have thought about visiting to see how well I like it. The only that turns me off on the place is that there is one major manufacturer that runs the entire town.

Well, that is true. The towns water tower has Cabelas in huge bold print at the top and City of Sidney in smaller letters. Some of the people that work there also think they are as big as the name but they are not. Some are nice but few. I like this town for raising children but sometime the people in it forget they are not the only people in the world. And if you say something about anything expect everyone to know.

So the only choice for employment would probably be Cabelas?

Lol I have to laugh at the comments posted because they are all soooooo true!!! Yes Cabela's runs this town and yes they are rude! I live in Kearney and Cabela's doesn't mean anything to people here. It's no more popular than Wal-Mart or Dollar General. I don't see where the Sidney employees get off thinking they are so almighty cuz they aren't!

I think I would find it difficult to live there.
Thanks for the input.

It's not that difficult to live there as long as you dont let them bother you! Other than that it isnt't all that bad, small and boring, but lots of great people to meet! You can find stuff to do pretty easy if you have a good imagination. It's also very easy to make friends. I have lived in Kearney for a while and have made 1 friend, in Sidney I can't even count all my friends. I just might be biased though, I was born and raised there and my family all still lives there!:)

Kearney...I'm still considering the move or A move. It gets sooooo hot down here in the summer. Still not sure about the winters up there...don't know if a southern girl like myself can handle all that snow in the winter. So it's easier to make friends in Sidney but not Kearney. What about job opportunity?

Ya the winters can get pretty cold here thats for sure! Job opportunity in Sidney is ok I guess it just depends on what you really want to do. There is always Cabelas, they pay well and I am sure have good career advancements and relocation, just dont act like most of them do! lol There are banks and stuff like that as well and of course the hospital pr nursing homes.

I think you are being very small minded. People in the city act the same way, it just takes less time to get back to you! If you don't like it, find where YOU'LL be happy. Not all Cabela's employees are jerks. Thanks!
