My girlfriend lives in Lancaster and I live in LA. I don't want to drive up there and then have to drive back to LA when we are hanging out. Besides watching a movie, what can you do out there if your out on a date??

Why would anyone want to go out in Lancaster? Lancaster has the highest crime rate in Los Angeles. Stay in LA, you are safer there.

There is alot to do. You can visit one of many SuperWalmarts... You can drive around town and get a personal up close viewing of an episode of cops.
You can go to the Mall and watch people get stabbed. And if your really lucky, you might have the chance of someone stealing you car or at the least breaking the windows and stealing your possessions. I have personally came out of two movie theaters in the AV to see people with busted windows filling out the paperwork. Oh yes, this is a great little area, the AV. Just remember to wear your bullet proof vests out at night...

Six years ago Lancaster wasn't too bad. Now there are illegals everywhere, and it is getting worse all the time. The gang bangers are here in force, and it isn't safe anywhere. The forces that be aren't doing anything about it.

Nothing to do. We moved to Kern County area almost 8 months ago. I am forever sorry we moved from the San Fernando Valley area and a good neighborhood. We have a beautiful home and the people are truly nice in our town. Our neighborhood has little crime right now but unfortunately I have to shop in the likes of Lancaster. I try to skip that town and go to West Palmdale but not much difference. I am used to being able to hop on a freeway and go anywhere. Not used to this at all.

We live in Rosamond-it's a very small town with nothing to do either but I prefer it to the likes of Lancaster and Palmdale. It probably will turn into that someday.

To answer the original question - We have a number of nice restaurants, two bowling alleys, Lancaster Preforming Arts and Palmdale Playhouse - that have things going on regularly. There's a motocross track at the fairgrounds and a roller rink off Avenue I. There's Apollo Park (daytime). A water park in Palmdale (summer only?) It depends on what you like to do and the safety of these things depends on what time of day you do them, right? There's a place to play pool called Sharkey's that doesn't seem bad - we've taken the family there and no one bothered us. Devil's Punch bowl has great hiking. A little imagination and "hanging out" is easy in the AV.

Hey there . I live in Rosamond as well. It is pretty boring for sure, but love to be able to make to right turns and be in the desert for dirt bike riding. As far as this area turning into the other side of the AV I sure hope not. The one thing about Kern Co. is that the sheriffs dont take alot of crap. Hopefully they will keep the riff-raff out. Have a great day. Have you visited the feline compound?

<quoted text>Oh yes, that is a very neat place to visit. I remember when it was a "donation" entrance fee instead of a must pay thing, but I do like the way they dudded it up with a gift shop and all. Very nice!

I guess it depends on where you live and when you do go out. I lived in east Palmdale for a few years and countless times had the getto bird helicopter flying over the house. This was one of the older gang infested neighborhoods in Palmdale. North of Palmdale Blvd, between 30th and 35th street east. There was a gangstyle ambush 2 streets over, I think a 17 year old got killed. House and car robberies all the time. Granted this kind of activity goes on everywhere to some degree, but this area is the armpit of the world. The daily newspaper does not report what really goes on. We bought a police scanner, and on any given night, or day for that matter you can hear calls for numerous stabbings, assaults, robberies and shootings or shots fired. Low income housing and a high concentration of section 8 does bring the low-life. I wouldnt walk down Palmdale Blvd at night, would you ?

WOW!!... I never thought that Lancaster was that bad! From the replies I got here, I think I would rather pick up my girlfriend and drive back to Los Angeles. There are a lot of things to do here. The only thing is that I wanted to avoid having to drive to Lancaster and then back to LA twice!! But I'm just going to have to bite the bullet and do it!!

Have to say I did not want to move to the AV for the reasons above. I ended getting a very nice house in West Palmdale (Rancho Vista) on top of a hill with a great view. No crime where I am, homes are all kept up. There are quite a few cops on my block and in my neighborhood so that helps I am sure. But the East side of the AV is not the place to be for sure.

I lived in the AV for 18 years and in the beginning it was great. There was not a lot of traffic. When Clinton took office that caused a lot of job layoffs with military contractors like Lockheed and Edwards Air Force Base, so the result was high foreclosures back in the 90's. As a result of HUD, many people came and bought the homes coming from South Central, Lawndale, and from many gang related areas because housing was cheaper. That was the problem advised my brother-in-law who is a deputy sheriff.

There is really not much to do out there unless you like to bowl, eat, shop or go karaoke!

I moved to Georgia and don't miss the AV at all!

I love BOB. Gangbangers are a big issue right now.

You must like the cleaner air here, and they are trying to improve on the crime here. The neighborhood we used to live in has been cleaned up very well. They have made a difference in many areas. There is no place totally void of crime, but they have a good police department that is working on taking care of it constantly. We live in a really nice neighborhood here in Lancaster too.

Very good answer. And it is true too.
