Stop answering the door to people you don't know. Is this the answer, take a self defence class, is this the answer, I will not open my door anymore in fear of what is the unknown. I have taken not one, but three classes now on self defence, I reccommend it to anyone. The classes are usually cheap and anyone can do them. I was taught to be aware of your surroundings, and never answer the door to anyone you don't know. I may sound weird, but I am not taking any chances on the unknown.

Dear T in Belton. Take some sensitivity classes while you're at it. I happen to know the family and the woman missing. No one knows where she is or who is responsible, but it is very possible that she KNEW the person at the door. It's a small town. Also, did you ever think that she never even answered the door? "Atchison County Sheriff John Calhoon said there are signs that Patricia Kimmi, 58, may have been forcefully removed from her home" Maybe the person who forcefully removed her from her home broke in or was in her home when she got there. Next time you want to be rude, do it somewhere else. Let's all keep praying they find her safe and she gets to come home to her AMAZING family.

This mades me so sad and sick. I hope she is found. I often wonder about the couple from Atchison that is missing. Could these cases be related? There are some sick, cruel people in this world. I'm saying prayers for friends and family. I hope they are able to get some closure somehow.

It needs to be known that the Atchison County law enforcement handled this situation very poorly in the initial stages of the investigation. They took far too long responding to the call, and also did not block or tape off the residence (location of the abduction). They could have missed out on a lot of evidence by allowing others access to the property immediately surrounding, and inside of, the house. I hope the KBI will teach this department the correct way to handle a situation. Prayers to the family.

I think this is HORRIBLE, there is barely anything released to the public, I am a mom out in the middle of nowhere with children BY MYSELF. What if this is going to be a serial case? I pray and hope to our AMAZING LORD that this amazing lady is found, as i have friends who do know her (I do not) But I am scared of the whole communities safety. Very early on in this case I read that her husband has been questioned, okay well did you rule him out or is he still a suspect? Who was the last person to talk to her? Where was her husband when this happened? There are so many unanswered questions that the public deserves to know. Its a cruel, scary world out there, but I sure do hope for the best.

I can't agree more with the "conceal and carry". I hope that they find this woman safe and sound. There are people out there who don't respect the value of a life. Children are killing children. Children and adults are vanishing everyday. People need to wake up and face the facts that they need to protect themselves from their next door neighbor. I hope this poor woman is found alive.

For all those expressing "concealed carry" sentiments, I can't agree more. Please note that concealed carry licensing is readily available for Kansans.

It is very sady how alot of the citzens are on here having to arm themselves because the Sheriff's Office is unable to protect them. It's very good the the Major Case Squad and the KBI have been called in to assist with the investigation. Also look at the past track record of the Sheriff's Office. How many people have gone missing in Atchison County in the six months alone? How many are still missing? How many of them support foul play (IE: Murder, Murder/Suicide, Etc.)? Out of the handful of deputies that Atchison County does have only 2-3 would I want working on a murder case of my friend/family. It's possibly time to elect a new Sheriff all together?

I can remember the time when we didn't even lock our cars or our house doors at night in Atchison! It was such a quiet town where everybody knew everyone else' business. If my boyfriend stayed too late at my apartment, my parents knew it the next morning! And don't let the police pick up a drunk...we ALL knew the person, time and place w/o it being in the Atchison Globe. Now, it seems the good old days are gone, and everyone still in Atchison must act as if they are in the Big City! Too bad. Hope and pray for the families of the missing persons!!
