I agree the man went to far as to threaten to kill the police and probly shouldn't have chosen to break the dog outta "jail" like that. BUT somehow it just seems wrong that the poor Little Buddy Rough and Tough had to die over it all.:( Mr. Fry should have tried to follow pound policy to try and get his dog back. Just my thoughts.

Wow , Hydro police killed a poodle because the owner threatened police and there had to have been all of 2 or 3 dogs in their doggy jail! They killed this little dog just to show this man not to mess with em, What losers! The man was wrong but I also think the cops did this just for meaness.

can't believe that would put his dog down while he was in jail. They should of gave the dog a couple of days knowing the man was unable to get him out. typical way for officials to handle this kick a man while he's down.

I would be livid if this happened to me. Hell, I'm livid now! They knew he couldn't get his dog out within the 3 days because he was locked up. You just don't do stuff like that. Wow. I really don't know what to say. They euthanized the dog out of spite. Plain and simple.

The old man did not handle the situation correctly, but killing his dog while he was in jail is ethically and morally wrong, not to mention cowardly.

What a horrible ending. His dog was probably the only thing he had that kept him sane. Pets are like family and to euthanize the dog just because the man loved his dog dearly and didn't want it to die?

This is a horrible story!

Shame, shame, shame for euthanizing this dog when they KNEW he had an owner who loved and wanted him. No, we don't want dogs roaming the streets, but if maybe he was a well-behaved little dog who visited neighbors and got treats and love, as is so frequent in rural areas.

Furthermore, I would LOVE to know why it is legal for all the cats in my neighborhood to be prowling around without a leash? More than a few here have cats who crap and pee in my front flower beds, which reeks to high Heaven no matter what I do. Finally I have taken to letting my 2 dogs out, unleashed, to chase them and scare them off. I would just LOVE to see them try to pick them up and take them to the pound. I'd react just like that fellow. The cats climb all over my new car leaving dirty paw prints all over and if ever leave the garage open for any length of time, doing work around the house, they inevitably come inside.

The policeman, city and animal "shelter" should be VERY ashamed and arrested for animal cruelty.

The cops knew he was in jail.
I think they should have made an exception here.
But then city police is city policy.
Killing dogs after they have been in the pound three days should be extended to seven days.
Three days just doesn't seem long enough.

It's a shame that the poor dog had to die. Obviously the man is not quite mentally stable. Wouldn't a better course of action would be to first try and get a family member to help the man understand why his dog can't run loose, primarily because the pooch could get hit by a car or shot by a dog hater? If that didn't work, couldn't there be a better way found to rehome the dog? I know that many small towns have limited resources and can't keep strays, but I also know small towns have people with big hearts. A little communication with respect could have gone a long way in this situation. The poor guy needs some mental help, and the dog did nothing to anywone to warrant a death sentence.

I just wondered what kind of complaints were made aganist the dog from the neighbors?
Seems kind of harsh that the city put the dog down while the man was in jail.
What kind of country do we live in that would put an old man through that kind of pain?
Disgusting and absolutely horrible... I don't even have words to describe what I feel...

This is all too sad. I agree that this was done from spite and meanness. Poor dog. This is just too sad.

Are they trying to drive the guy into doing something he really doesn't want too. So they can lock him up for it.? That dog meant a lot to that man. Was probably his family. They should all be ashamed of them selves and I hope this doesn't get sadder than it already is.

From the comments, no one is on the police or dog pound peoples side. They were in the wrong. They shouldn't have taken the dog in the first place and in the second place they shouldn't have killed it. That is why he broke it out of the pound, he knew they were going to do that.

I see dogs running everywhere, anytime. This was taken to far. It is all too sad and now I am mad.

This is just MEANNESS sheer unadulterated meanness. why would anyone kill a dog that had a loving owner???

The police, dog shelter and city of hydro should pay the man back for this.

shame on you.

It was a poodle!!!!! Probably not even twelve inches tall. I hope that elderly man has his revenge. I would have had mine if it happened to me.

It just seems that "policy" was stictly followed in this case outta sheer cruelty due to the fact of Fry's attitude toward the police in the matter. Almost like they wanted to teach him a lesson. The pound could have contacted a volunteer group that takes animals in, in circumstance's like this. They just didn't want too. Agree'd killing his dog, KNOWING he was in jail and couldn't get him out, was shamfull and just plain wrong. It's a darn poodle people! Neighbors of Mr. Fry...are ya'll happy now?!?!?!

I cannot believe this story turned out the way it did. They kept the old guy in jail just long enough to put his dog down. I don't see how a poodle can be that big of a threat to the neighborhood. Most of these old guys are like their dogs.. more bark than bite. Seems like the police dept. might be overreacting just a tad. Where is the compassion and public service we expect? Apparently not in Hydro America.

Those police and the people at the pound should all be FIRED for killing the dog! That is TERRIBLE! Seriously, FIRE them!!!
