just wondering if anybody else is sick of the clicks in our schools. If a child says anything to a teachers kid or family member they get sent to the principals office and teachers have their picks

Move to another school system, before your child reaches middle school there. Even if just Laurel county, I'd move.

Well, to be honest there are "cliques" everywhere in every school. It's gonna be like that even in private schools.

There have been parents who have tried to get the board of education at schools to seperate students, and enforce dress codes.

Well, it doesn't matter how many parents stand up the boards won't do shit. They are more worried about getting that $30 for every student present everyday.

Leslie Co. has always had the worse cliques who have gotten away with murder...but you know karma always comes back around. Trust me, every one of them has gotten what's coming to them...and most of their "hidden" affairs with other wives/husbands are coming out.

Sorry to say to the cliques in Hyden, but you get what's coming to your asses. You reap what you sow.

what's so bad about it is when teachers give students good grades for dressing like sluts.
I have a daughter in high school who dresses appropiately, wears nice clothes and looks well and makes good grades and she tells me girls up there that are in the cliques or preps get good grades when have the time they say they don't even study or attend class.
And these are the ones who dress like tricks to get the men teachers attention.
I have a nephew that goes to Hazard college and his math teacher asked him one day where he attended high school, he said "leslie county"...she said "I can tell by your math skills."
She told him that in the past and present, she has never seen so many Leslie County graduates with bad arithmatic. His instructor also mentioned that in other subjects they were seeing the same things in Leslie County graduates.
And now the high school is getting the very young 20 year olds to teach high school students when they haven't been out of high school 6 years. I don't care if you went to college and got a degree, you should get some teaching experience in lower grades.
It's getting bad...and there's no sign of slowing down. They won't hire people up there who are NOT in the clique...
But just like the above poster said, they get whats coming to them...its just a matter of time.

this is bull the reason hayes lewis is one of the high rinking schools is because thay change answers on test and if your child is absent for 10 days he or she will still receive 3 day's or less school is no good. the only one's benefits is the staff!!

I beg to differ on this folks! First of all, there are clicks everywhere--from the schools systems to the work place to the churches. I'm just glad we don't have to deal with gangs in our school system, and no I'm not employed by Leslie County either. Cliques are just groups of people who hang together and befriend one another, and yes, sometimes they can be cruel. But, that fall under another group--bullies. I get so tired of parents talking about Leslie County High School and saying their children got cheated out of this or that because they weren't in the right "Clique". My child attends Leslie County and we aren't in any "clique", and he does extremely well in school and sports. No, he isn't some "big wheel's" son, but he made the basketball team, ran cross country and ran track! Will he play on the court or sit on the bench? That is his coach's call. IF he is good enough he will get playing time, if not he'll respectfully support his team members from the bench. It is our jobs as parents to help our children find their niche. My son is not a social butterfly. He is very serious about he academics, and he loves being part of a team. I say kuddos to all the Leslie County teachers, adminstrators and coaches who are in the school district. I for one appreciate everything they do for my child.

my2cents I'm sorry but I beg to differ. You're not in the fuckin' classroom to see what goes on. I sit in the classroom and I SEE with my own eyes what goes on in the class and I know what goes on behind the scenes.
I make good grades and try to be nice to everyone but when certain students get privileges because their parents are "well-known," I have a right to say what the fuck I want. I know students there who make good grades but THEY CHEAT and copy papers from their friends. And most of those are known as the smart, preppy kids.
They're students who play sports who sit on the bench, who are just as good as the ones who start but who gets the better treatment? The students who's parents are in the cliques.
So I'm assuming you're probably "friends" with some of people in the cliques, huh?
I wish they would release the test scores and all that to the public to show everyone how bad it is.

First of all, student, it seems you are lacking in the art of persuassion. Your mouth needs to be totally cleaned up. I do know the way some of the kids you described act and yes, you are right. They do cheat and make good grades and have done so since grade school. Do you know what I tell my son? It depicts the lack of THEIR intregrity...not his. He can only worry about himself. A few times in practice while running cross country practice students who would cut their course in half, but he'd struggle to finish. I again had to inform him whom those kids were hurting...themselves. These students who cheat will have a reckenoning come college. It will be one rude awakening. As far as being in the classroom and seeing what all goes on, I beg to differ. I am a teacher...just not in Leslie County. However, my son attends there, and he loves his teachers and his coaches. He did complain once about a couple of those cheaters, but I told him to worry about himself. As far as sitting on the bench, again that will be his coaches call and my son will respect that decision. As far as the way his coaches treat him, they have the utmost respect from my son and my son is treated FAIR! As far as being friends of the "clique", I do not what "cliques" you are talking about. So, go ahead with you vile mouth and whine. Stoop to a lower level. I would love for test scores to be released. My son scored Distinguised and he makes excellent grades. Yes, I'm proud of him. He's also a Christian. Is he perfect no, but I'm hoping as he grows up he learns their are cheaters in life, there are slackers in life, there are liars in life, there are thieves in life. BUT, I want him to choose his friends wisely, be true to himself, and do the BEST that only he can. See, I'm the type of person who has never allowed excuses in my house. It is never, "But Mom, I didn't get play because...or I didn't get the grade because..." My response is always, "But Son, if you are good enough you'll get to play...and if you study harder, you'll do better." I want him to take care of himself and not worry about others. I want him to befriend students who are more like himself and NOT try to fit in with a crowd he's not...no matter what the socio-economics. And, so far, my son has gone to four elementary/middle schools and two high schools AND he's never had a problem finding his niche. I've never allowed him to bad mouth teachers or students and I've never put them down in front of him. I may not always agree with what my son may tell me about a class he is in, but he never knows it. By the way, dear, life sure isn't fair and again you'll see there are "cliques" every where. Find the one you fit in best with and just keep doing YOUR best. Don't let it make you bitter! That is life.

Did you say "sports," thats it. If your kid is good in sports, thats all that matters, they will fix the grades. Heck it may even boost Lelie counties image to have another Tim Couch. The school system there is useless.

I do believe that you mean :cliques
and btw there are cliques no matter where you go especially in public middle/highschools. Your best bet is probably to send your child to a private school. Red Bird is just around the corner. Also if your child is being picked on at Stinnett I definitely wouldn't send them to Hyden..Stinnett is probably the best school in the Leslie Co. system, so if it's not working for them at SES I would consider a private school before sending them to a public highschool!

Yes, I said sports. BUT, my son makes his own grades, thank you. He is an A student, taking AP classes. What is wrong with a student wanting to participate in sports? He also volunteers in the community and in his church? Is that a problem also? Our students should be encouraged to do extra curricular activities. FYI, it looks very good on transcripts. There is a section that has extra curricular activities, clubs, community service on those college applications as well!

I agree with "my 2cents". The biggest challenge our children face in the school system is how we, the parents, deal with our preconceived notions about those in charge. If we are negative and continually whine the "Life's Not Fair" tune, our children will follow our lead. If my child fails I need to look at what my child is or isn't doing and at what I, as a parent, am or am not doing to ensure my child's success. If I allow my child to be lazy and blame others for real or imagined failings or injustices, I am doing a grave disservice to my child. There ARE cliques in all levels of school, including college; as well as in the work place, community groups, churches, etc. My guess would be your child is probably IN a clique, just not the one YOU would like. If we meddled less in our children's social lives and concentrated more on being good examples and improving our children's home lives, I think there would be a lot less to complain about. And before anyone goes off, I do not advocate turning them loose and not knowing where they are or who they are with, but letting solve their own social dilemmas, unless things are just way out of hand, but if that's the case, then I am at fault for letting it go that far. Just my opinion.

Your right about that. Some kids do hold their grades. He sounds like a good guy who will do good in life. There are a lot of kids who do not make the grades that are in sports, but there are also those such as your son, who do make the grade.
