Is HYDEN KY really that BROKE?! We need to get to the bottom of this as to WHY this miserable little town hasn't improved in over 40+ years!! Where is the money going?? Why can't we find someone to come here and change this ever going problem?? This is disgusting! we desperately NEED new opportunities for this town to expand their economic bases and to improve community facilities and services. Would it be too much to ask for a Big Lots or a K-Mart at least?? lol I mean is that such a big deal to ask for??! WHO keeps Hyden Ky from growing?? There needs to be new businesses here!

Throw your money in the pot and open something up. See how long it will last.

I believe they were talking more along the lines of franchise opportunities not some little crappy store that barely helps the community in any way shape or form.

Or a 36 hole championship golf course and country club. How many know how to play golf or could afford that? Only a few.

I don't know. I've never heard of a "36 hole championship golf course" before. But hell ... might as well give it a try. I mean ... If they'll try a go-cart track next to the courthouse ... I guess they'll try anything. Come to think of it ... I wouldn't mind playing 9 holes time to time myself.

"Briarwood Golf Clubs are 36 championship holes providing great golf at reasonable rates. Both courses carry 3.5 star Golf Digest ratings"

"Be sure to take advantage of nearby sister golf course, South Hills for some great 36-hole options!"

I think you find that they're referring to two separate golf "courses". A golf "course" is 18 holes ... in the same manner that a baseball game is 9 innings or a football game is 4 quarters.

Everyone's on drugs and the one's who aren't are either older than the hills or can't find a job so they leave. That's why Hyden is broke. It's not really any deeper than that.

A game of golf is 18 holes and a course is usually 9, 18, or 36 holes.

it is poor because the powers(merchants/bankers) that be-will not let growth happen-because that would take away from them.
In other words-poor management and greed.

I didn't know that ... but it sounds about right. All the ones I've seen were 18 holes.

Well someone needs to step in and fix this problem. Maybe if lc citizens would protest in the streets this could change. I know there are many like me tired of going else where to shop for the simplest things. Why should we have to go give another county our money every time we turn around. There has to be something done and someone who can change this issue. LC deserves more options and improvement. We haven't seen any in over 50 years.

The population requirements is the only thing holding us back from getting businesses in LC. There has to be some way around that or a way to convince them that the population shouldn't be an issue. I'm sure someone could bring businesses in LC if they tried hard enough. It just takes effort.
the problem

The problem is that people move away because they can't get jobs here because there either are none, or because some of the biggest employers hire people from out of the county-like the school system for instance. Out of county hires live outside the county and spend their money and pay taxes to their own counties. It would be different if they moved here but they don't, so residents of this county who cannot get jobs leave, taking their children with them, further decreasing the county and student population which further compounds the problems already present. That is why you should never allow a stupid person to do a job which requires at least some level of intelligence and forethought.

I agree with statement completely. "The powers that be" will never let it change. We will always have poor health care in this area we will never have jobs, our children will never get the education they desirve or the opportunity to reach their full potential because of this and it is sad that we continue to live like this.
In my oppinion this only feeds to the statements that the rest of America makes about this area of Kentucky such as we are dunb and in-bred.

The reason Leslie County is like it is today with all junkie's, the moms on welfare and people sitting at home getting a check is because of no progress in this area, their is nothing here for people but that. Each child that was raised on public assistance will only think to raise their children the same way and think it is okay because that is all they know. With each generation this place does get worse but with more jobs and businesses in this area it WOULD CHANGE. I really wish someone around here would see that because there are good people here just no opportunity.
