Now this is the best topic yet. I also remember those orange aids at Campbells drug store they were great. They also had the best tuna ever. I bet if you would start a poll of the best busineses past and present in Leslie County Campbells Drug Store would be high on the list.
Those were definitely the best days ever. Eating the tuna salad and drinking the orange aides were the best. I remember when the 45 records were sold at the back of the store near the pharmacy.
I also bought the Tiger Beat and other teen magazines there. The cherry coles were also great.

Anyone remember Regina Sizemore and Wanda Sizemore at Hyden Elementary? They were my teachers in 7th and 8th. Loved them! I am glad they are using the old gym/school for college classes. It is really nice, but they kept a lot of the details from before. I would have hated to seen it torn down, or remodeled to where it would not look like the same place. Remeber the old fashioned school desks? I wonder what happened to those. I would love to have one.
They were mine as well. I credit Regina for my grammar today. She was the best English teacher ever. I also remember Mrs. Day, the librarian. She used to read Pippy Longstockings and I still love this story. My cousin is married to a guy from Sweden, where the author of the story lived. I have a Pippy doll. I also loved Gladys Begley. She was wonderful. She gave me a dog once, his name was Tip. He used to play hide and seek with us. He was so smart. He was at the bus stop every evening waiting for us to get home.

Do any of you remember Lucille's restaurant that was near the S & T and Feltner's? Her last name was Brannon. Her son was killed at Trace Branch in a boating accident. He was her only child. She was never the same after this. We always thought that eating at her restaurant was great. She served plate lunches and burgers. She was so nice.

Lucille is my neighbor, she has some health issues, but is doing ok. I sure do remember her restaurant, she had a fantastic receipe for hot dog chili which she would NEVER share! Her food was the best in town, I really wish we had a "home cooking" place like that now.

I am so glad to hear that she is well. I couldn't wait to go there to eat as a kid. Do you remember the horse in front of the IGA store on Main Street? I always had to ride before going shopping for groceries. The meat case in that store was wonderful. That was when meat was fresh and cut to your specifications. We used to go in there and get butchers paper to make cheerleading signs to hang up. I have spent many a dollar at the 5 & 10 store on hair ribbons before a ballgame. Do you guys remember the candy that was sold by the pound in there? It was so good.Lola Sizemore worked there for years and was so sweet. This is awesome reliving these memories. Keep'em
coming!!!!!!!!!!

The school bus would drop us off at the mouth of our holler and we'd walk 2 or more miles home.
Running through the yard at night catching lightening bugs and putting them in a jar. Listening to Gladys Begley reading the story "Old Yeller", I can still see and hear her in my mind reading that story.
Going Mountain climbing as a kid, when you didn't have to worry about coming up on a Pot Patch and getting shot.
The famous Drug Store in town. The old 5 & 10 store on the corner, even if those old women did follow you around the store watching your every move...LOL....
Going to the Laundry Mat just to play the Arcade Machines, PacMan and Frogger were Number 1.

Yep, those were the good old days....

I can remember on the weekends, my brother, cousin, and I would leave for the woods early and stay all day. At Christmas we would search all day for the perfect Christmas tree and drag it home. We were so proud of our find. We would ride our bikes on the other days. Its a wonder that we didn't get killed with some of our stunts. Riding across the swinging bridge was always an adventure. We would ride to the store with a $1 and get a bag of goodies. The grape, peach, and strawberry Nehi's were a favorite. Oh yeah, I forgot the peanuts we would por into the bottle. That last bite was always the best.

Some people called it Hyden Drive In (remember you could blow your horn and they would come out and wait on you) and some called it The Wagon Wheel Restaurant. They also had awesome pizzas and cherry cokes.
