I remember when Campbell's Drugstore was where S&T is now. I believe there was an old tin ceiling there, a huge magazine stand, and the best orange-aids ever. They also served lunch. A lot of high schoolers would stop by after school.

Does anyone remember the old school bell at Hyden Elementary? It had a rope attached and someone would have to ring it at 3:00. And the old lunch room (before the new school). I think it had a dirt floor. Or maybe the water just leaked in and made it look that way. And chocolate milk at break-I still love chocolate milk.

Now this is the best topic yet. I also remember those orange aids at Campbells drug store they were great. They also had the best tuna ever. I bet if you would start a poll of the best busineses past and present in Leslie County Campbells Drug Store would be high on the list.

Just wondering are there any one out there that remembers when Nixon came to Leslie County? This was a great memory. I can remember watching this on the ABC news.

I loved the old Chambell drug store it had tall wood and glass cabinets in it. And old time medical tools and vials were on display inside of the floor cabinets. Silk purse had some of them in their store in Hazard before they moved to the new one. I dont know if they still do or not.
I was sad when they shut it down and cleaned it out.

I'm not old enough to remember this, but it sounds so wonderful. I can almost see it.

Anyone remember Regina Sizemore and Wanda Sizemore at Hyden Elementary? They were my teachers in 7th and 8th. Loved them! I am glad they are using the old gym/school for college classes. It is really nice, but they kept a lot of the details from before. I would have hated to seen it torn down, or remodeled to where it would not look like the same place. Remeber the old fashioned school desks? I wonder what happened to those. I would love to have one.

There used to be a lot of places in town to shop. Town would be crowded on Saturday mornings. You would see everyone you knew. There was Elam's, Pace's, Maggard's. They all had really nice quality clothes. And Joann's Closet. Anyone remember that? A tiny little place, but really cute clothes. Now there is what, only one clothing store in town? I guess Feltner's shoe store is the last of the businesses that have been here a long time.

The old Giovannis??? It was great! Me & a buddy would go there before a home basketball game there at Hyden grade school. We would order some food, play games & play music on the juke box.

We seem to have more when we were young than the kids today. I remember Phillip Muncy had a skating rink. We had a drive-in. Leslie County seems to be moving back instead of ahead. There is something wrong with this picture.
