This isn't the time to blame parents. Kids are riding a lot younger nowadays. My condolences to the family.

OH MY GOD- ENOUGH OF ALLOWING KIDS TO DIE ON ATV'S. PLEASE OUTLAW CHILDREN FROM RIDNG THESE DEATH TRAPS. IF THE STATE CAN CHARGE PARENTS UNDER SOCIAL ORDIANCE LAWS, PARENTS OF DEAD CHILDREN FROM ATV ACCIDENTS SHOULD BE CHARGED FOR IN A SIMILAR FASHIION FOR BEING UNRESPONSIBLE PARENTS.
Let's not play the blame game. How about this: Oh God, please let me, a post middle aged washed up alcoholic take her, or some other little childs place.

This is a time to blame the parents. A nine year old is too young to understand the dangers of an ATV. This is pure stupidity, no child should be riding one with or with out a helmet. Would you give your car keys to a nine year old? Think about it.

And I am thinking we gave you access to a computer... Nothing wrong with a nine year-old riding an ATV WITH a helmet.

At age 5 I fell out of our hay mow and broke my arm. Maybe hay mows should be off-limits to five year-olds? While riding a horse at age 14 I hit a telephone pole with my head. Maybe all horse riders should wear helmets to? When I was 17 I flew over a river bank on a snowmobile, breaking my kneecap, would having a helmet help? Kids do stuff, bones break, and sometimes they die... I feel for the parents. My own daughter and grand-daughter had an ATV accident. The children always have a helmet on, grown adults can make their own decisions.

It is all about responsible riding.#1 you don't let a kid ride an adult sized ATV without helmet & supervision. We take our 10 year old daughter four wheeling & she ALWAYS has a helmet on & ALWAYS rides WITH one of us, NEVER driving alone. Kids should not be outlawed from riding but should definitely be required some training & certification before they are allowed to drive solo.

Aren't there enough morality and morbidity risks out there without parents who slap their kids on these things and send them out to risk death?

Nine year-old children should be texting on their cell phones, playing computer games, and possibly have had their gang initation by this age and not be enjoying the outdoors.

If your small little body falls off a bike or skateboard, you can pull the bike or skateboard off of you. You can't push off a heavy ATV, especially if it crushes you as soon as it flips.

There is NO way I will ever let my children ride one of those. There are things in life you can't avoid that will hurt your children, and this isn't one of them.

When I first saw this story I thought, ok she was a passenger on the ATV and fell off. Then they interviewed the parents on KARE 11 who said she was riding it on her own without a helmet. But the part that struck me was the parents demeanor. I have seen people show more remorse over a pet dying. They were on TV less than 24 hours after the accident on TV smiling as if she bruised a leg or something. I kept thinking it can't be the parents but the reporter said 3 times they were. Unbelievable!

Don't judge the parents over their reaction on TV - you don't know how you would react unless you have lost a close, young loved one, and everyone reacts differently. It simply isn't the same as losing a grandparent, parent, or friend - It is infinitely worse

An event at an AD HOC ATV park near 694 between White Bear Ave and highway 61, north of 694.

Someone cut hills into the empty lot and all kinds of people were using it. UNTIL a young boy was riding his motorbike sitting near a hill. A large ATV jumped the hill landing on the boy killing him. The boys dad witnessed the whole thing.

A sign was then posted on the empty lot to the effect: "Anyone using this lot will lose their machine"
