Minnesota, as an example, causes problems by limiting the companies that can offer health insurance within this state. By restricting it to 4 companies, there's virtually no competition on prices. If competition was opened up, many companies would offer insurance, driving the price down. Auto insurance works in the same manner.
That said, health insurance really isn't "insurance"; it's a pre-paid medical policy. In the old days, if you went to the doctor, he gave you a bill afterwords and you paid it. The move to pre-paid medical was a convenience to some people that were betting they would use more medical services than they paid for in their flat-rate pre-paid fee.
The problem isn't the "middle man" so much as it is people who don't want to pay their share of the medical services that they use. If people would pay for what they use, we wouldn't need to have the so-called "medical insurance".
Minnesota is one of the FEW states that has taken the PRICE RAISING competition out of the equasion by requiring our Health Insurance companies to be NON PROFIT. So your plan is to open it up to competition so that we can pay more? You do realize that the need for these companies to show profits will raise our prices, right? Your lack of knowledge in this area is now clear and I invite you to actually READ something about our state and our insurance. Good luck gaining knowledge, you really need some.

Ok, I'm finished with this conversation. You don't listen to what anybody posts and every reply you make is full of condescending remarks and name-calling.

In short, you're an online bully - and an idiot.

So you request a meeting after they lay-off most of their workforce?

Wisconsin is only the stepping stone to Thailand. The Eau Claire plant is projecting layoffs also! We are not surprised at any of this and Hutchinson did a great job of keeping us employed through the holidays, tax time and winter in general.

Actually, I have ready about our health insurance laws in this state. Those are the reason for the high insurance costs. I've gone and got quotes for health insurance. I can get the same level of insurance in other state for far less than I can here. The only difference is where I saw I live. Why? Because other states allow for open competition. Minnesota's laws should be proof positive to the rest of the country, hell, rest of the world, that private insurance companies competing for your business is the best way to go. So maybe you just don't realize that health insurance in other states costs less than here in MN where there are no "Profits". Oh, and if you really believe these "non-profit" insurance companies are not raking in huge amounts of cash and going on expensive seminar trips, rewarding themselves with massive paychecks and bonus, then I have farm land to sell you in the everglades.

You are right in THAT regard, much more regulation of our NON profit insurance companies is defininately necessary! I wonder what would solve BOTH of these issues? Hmmmmm. SINGLE PAYER!!!!!

Only a ignorant person would think that doing more of a bad thing is going to make that bad thing better. Single Payer is the ultimate end to this bad thing. It does not get any worse than single payer. Ask all the EU countries that are backing away from single payer plans. They are bankrupt and don't provide quality healthcare. That's why people all over the world come to America when they need the best health care possible. Single payer will end the best healthcare system in the world.

Yes, Your plan, that we have, of the majority of our health care dollars going to the stockholders of the middlemen, is a much wiser and I'm sure, wink wink, cheaper system.
