HCC Bookstore Prices

[Frustrated Student]

To whom it may concern,

I am a current student at HCC. I am in the paramedic to nurse bridge program (wonderful program).

I am looking for an answer to my question.

Why did I pay $112.39 for the book "An Invitation to Health"? The book is available new at Amazon.com for $9.99 plus shipping. I paid 11 times over at the book store. I feel that this is ridiculous. I understand that there should be a profit. How is it that the HCC book store has the price of text book marked up 200% on most books? I have discussed this with several people in the community and I find the similar experience with fellow students and parents / grandparents of students.

My question is why are you robbing your pupils?

I am sorry to say the prices were $100 over what would be a justifiable charge for any book back when I went to Hutch Juco as it was known back then. It seems totally sad to see how the college taking advantage of poor students who don't have grants or scholarships by requiring book purchases along with other FEES that aren't really applicable to some students;IE: I never went to the Union but had to pay for it just the same. Sorry we can't help Seth, as we have lost our jobs here due to this Obama administration economy. Perhaps take it back to the Union and buy the book on Amazon or eBay! Sad eBay didn't exist for me back in the 80s.
