Great story, wonderful bit of history, and I thought the part where Mike Carillo was hired, was right out of a movie.
Salt of the Earth, and no two ways about it, I enjoy reading these treasures, good stuff, thank you.

Has anyone called you a jerk lately? If not let me be the 1st! This was a wonderful story so why be a jerk about it? My Dad was an officer in Deming for both the PD and the SO. Slick Gray is one man that really stands out in my memory. To me as a little girl he was a giant of a man. I always thought of him as a cowboy. He was always kind to me.
My Dad has been gone for a few years now and I really miss him. I love stories about the old cops in the area. Thank you Nancy for making me smile once again!

Well Slick Gray wasn't much of a father or good husband. He treated his son Cliff jr and wife Mary very poorly. Not much in the way of integrity. Should have never been a police officer. If you don't have the integrity to be a man and take responsibility for your family, you have no business telling others what is right or wrong.
