This is the first article that has tried to convey what they are trying to do at the Tierra Blanca High Country Youth Ranch, and the challenges of rebuilding youth who have not responded elsewhere to less intense efforts.(For many, this is the last resort before incarceration). The Headlight article scratched the surface, but there is much more to the program than described in the article. I have visited Tierra Blanca; I have talked with Scott Chandler; I have met some of the youth there, and I have learned of their methods of rebuilding a young adult who is far along the wrong path. The inflammatory press, and the knee jerk response by others and their organizations never bothered to learn about the program and its success, or describe them .
For political animals and their organizations: see if you can learn more about an adversary or organization before you attack and attempt to destroy something that helps others. For the news media: a little information is a dangerous thing, and you can be used by others who only give you their little bit of information. Dig deeper! For the rest of us, keep an open mind and try to learn more before judgement.
