Births at U.S., Mexico border are down

There are 3 comments on the KOAT-TV story from Apr 30, 2013, titled Births at U.S., Mexico border are down. In it, KOAT-TV reports that:

For decades, it's been a very costly and concerning reality in Southern New Mexico: Women from Mexico, in labor, coming to the border to have customs agents call for a New Mexico ambulance, to take them to a New Mexico hospital to give birth-- all on the taxpayers' dime.

Now that Palomas has a place for pregnant women to deliver their babies, the next step would be for Mexico to help Palomas get their own ambulance to transport their emergencies to Ausencion, Chihuahua. It's the closest city to Palomas besides Juarez. It should be up to Mexico to help there own people out, not the US taxpayers.

"The state recognized this was becoming a financial issue, but Paul Dulin said they also realized they could not shut the mothers from Mexico out without giving them another viable location to give birth."
