County commission wary of fire risk

With two wildfires breaking out this week, it took little prompting for the Grant County Commission to pass a proclamation at its meeting Thursday that extends a ban on the use of most fireworks. Full Story

Thank you Silver City/Grant County Tea Party for giving us an up-close, local example of the Tea Party movement that is plaguing our Nation. Just stand up and complain. Don't bother with facts or knowledge of the issues. And don't offer any reasonable alternatives.

They voted in a raise and then raised the property taxes 3% in all of Grant county to pay for it. If the average income in Grant County is 14k a year why should the commision get paid any more then $10 an hour for their meetings? They want the power and the money. BS. It's time all Americans start demanding accountability from Government local and federal. I don't want to hear whinning about how hard they work, we all work hard so what makes them so special?

Oh fer cripes sake. NOBODY used fireworks to start the fires they are talking about. NOBODY is even using or buying fireworks yet. There WERE NO reports of fireworks in the sky or any explosions. And if people have fireworks, no way anyone is gonna stop them from using them. These fires, including the huge blaze last night AGAIN on Mountain View Road, are being started by punks on 4-wheelers that were spotted in the area. Or they were SET fires by a firebug loose in our county. NOT fireworks.
Wanna stop the fires from continuing? Pass a law making it legal for citizens to use deadly force on anyone commiting arson. And that includes CHILDREN. If the idiot parents can't control their kids, then it's time for them to suffer the consequences, before someone loses their life in one of these fires.
