Come on, Silver Hat. What's Christine Steele got to do with this? The paper will run a story on every candidate based on interviews or material supplied by the candidate. That's simpy a matter of fairness. Christine isn't pushing this clown.

Koons has never claimed to be a super anything!!
His business, if you have used it speaks for itself. The paper itself speaks clearly about koons police work. So there!! Actions are louder than words. Koons may not be the best , but he is better than the others running. Hands Down.
This is america the right to choice and freedom so what if he(koons)changed parties!!
PLEASE STOP LOOK & LISTEN!!!
Oh and you are correct about Villalnueva!!

First of it is spelled sergeant.

Great point it is called silver city!! Give the guy thats popular or related to everyone the job not the qualified. Raul has done the same just look at the people he promoted once he became sheriff!! One of the smartest guys there is Mike Burns, but Raul or the sheriff promoted people who were the least qualified but could bring him the most votes.

Mike Burns good guy, great cop too bad he is running with Art Vega the previous under sheriff for the past 7 years who did absolutely nothing!!

Just my opinion !!

I'm looking at either Art Vega or James Koons. They are the only two candidates who seem less connected to various families and other political special interests.

By the way, I just heard today that apparently a lawsuit has been filed against Chris Ponce, another sheriff's candidate. Does anyone know if this is true? Supposedly the lawsuit is trying to block his candidacy.

Too bad you don't want truths, it's no secret, they don't hide it. I don't have the time to drink but I do shop at Albertson's on my way home from work and it's an everyday occurance.

I don't know much about any of the candidates, I've heard alot of things but I have not made my decision yet. I think it's important to know about the candidates history and back grounds. I surely don't want a drunk for a sheriff and I don't want a sue happy person either and how can you sell out your own union, when people were depending on you to make decisions for the entire group. I've heard about family ties but it's a small town and that can't be helped. I think I need to see who did their job no matter what or who it was.

You make some good observations. Family/political ties do play a key role in most all county-wide elections. You will hear a lot of gossip/allegations, but most you can take with a grain of salt.

The sheriff's race, indeed, is going to be a juicy one!

Rock steady: How can you say that the Commission was coached by the county manager. Sure, the commission is made up of three women, so what??!! They each have their own opinions and act accordingly. Most of the time, the people that b**ch the most are the ones that are least involved.
When the commission was seeking public input on the appointment, did you call your commissioner and voice your opinion? Probably not.

Have you called Sedillo and Gonzales and asked their reasoning behind their not running? Doubt it! So before you open your mouth and talk, know the facts!!!

It's to bad that people have to be ugly and mean. Why don't you people confront all these individuals face to face. This blog is not to trash peoples lives but to communicate information that would be helpful when deciding to select a candidate. I don't want to be a part of this ugliness and this type of forum it's dispicable. Too bad that the sun news allows this type of behavior.

Why is she naive. Its a story. Either your voting for him or someone else... Its up to the people of grant county to make the change. All you ever hear is how bad everyone does, but guess what you don't vote then nothing changes, that is the bottom line. Vote People. Make changes that is the only way, stop talking and start voting. One of these days you will get the right people. Just got to vote.... Which has absolutely nothing to do with Ms Steele. Its a story she is a writer its her job. Get it... So if you don't want Mr Villanueva in office Vote him out plain and simple...
I made that comment because she is constantly promoting Raul Villanueva. And it's clear to me that she's become a tool for him.

A great example is how this very article is suddenly back on the front page of the paper's website. And this makes the second article she has written about Villanueva running for sheriff.

I guess now Jimenez is the target? I am amazed at nigtriders comments. Now that he has a krystal ball and assumes that he see's everything about Jimenez and trudges his name through the mud I ask what his benefits have been from the appointment of villanueva or why he says these things? I know Mike and his wife and they have gone out of their way to help so many with jobs, with placements, with just a place to stay when they've been down and out. I can mention names, but they've done it because its part of their life.

Ask Mike why he left state police, read the paperwork, ask retired State Police Officers who know him, He did not beat Maxine! Wow that is really low, considering they have worked together for years.

As for the comments about Maxine, that's even worse. Maxine is a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and you taint her repution why? What is your benefit? Again its hurtful and wrong. The blogs here are really getting ridiculous and stupid. The nasty comments NEED to STOP about all the canadites, their families and friends. All these people are running for a position not against each other and certainly not agaist YOU.

I know all the candadites and although they have different platforms, overall they are all kind, caring and passionate about the election and what they want to do! Instead of bashing them. Praise them for trying to make a difference.
