In response to "It's our problem" in the Voice of the People column from 4/17/13 about the homeless or mentally ill individuals that are in this town. Yes, I too have been concerned about getting these individuals the help they need as probably many other people in this town are ...about having a place in this town where these individuals could go to get cleaned up, have a place to sleep or eat a meal, get food, get clothes or hygene products. About making survival kits for transients who may need toiletries, or water to help them get to where they are going as they pass through Deming. Mr. Felix have you talked to the leadership of this town about your concern as I have? My concerns have been heard and nothing has been done, so I think its up to us the citizens of Deming to get off our duffs and do something. Yes I think the City could team up with Border Area and come up with a plan of action, if there is one already I have no knowledge of it.

Well heck, don't stop there, let's emulate Vancouver, B C and Portland OR with their 'Free Needles program' for IV druggies. Unlike us hicks in Deming, those two enlightened cities celebrate a 100% success-rate of turning transient druggies into PERMANENTLY ANCHORED druggies on the city dole.

The Park Service posts 'Do Not Feed The Bears' signs. I'll let you take a week of hard concentration to conclude why I just posted that fact.
