ReFORM Alabama's Sex Offender Laws: http://reformalabama.blogspot.com/

Now that the plugs are out of the way...

The stupidity of people shutting down housing for sex offenders is they simply quit registering. If you're so concerned about where sex offenders live, then you might want them in a stable home obeying the law rather than not registering. Way to go Alabama!

Actually, the solution to the problem is to send them to the State Penitentiary, put them in the general population, and let it be known what they did to get put in the big house. The other inmates will permanently solve the problem for us.

Well, then if you're so smart why don't you invite them to live with you? What difference does it make if they register or not? The vast majority will offend again anyway.

Yeah. Lock 'em up. Throw away the key. They are all just old white guys out hunting our children anyways, right?

I'm sure that you will love these laws until your son or daughter is convicted of statutory rape, or they get convicted of child pornography charges for having nude pictures of themselves, or Walmart turns you in to police for pictures of your young children in the bathtub.

Yep these crimes are heinous. Yep, the repeat offenders deserve awful lives. Yep, the offenders who know better who take away a child's innocence deserve awful lives or awful deaths. We have to take care that we don't make things so awful that those that could have reformed don't or get worse. Because our legal system is more than happy to make an example out of those we never intended for the laws to be so strict for.

The number of sex offenders living at the Myric had very little to do with the place being demolished. Have you driven by there in the last couple of years? If so, you would see that the place was falling in and was a health hazard. I drive past the Myric daily... and as you drive down Shields Road with the car windows down... the smell of mold coming from the place will take your breath. The property the Myric is setting on is much more valuable than a mold infested motel. There have been at least 6 sex offenders living at the Myric for over a decade... if the number of sex offenders had anything to do with it then the place would have been demolished years ago.

I think the owner of the Myric should have been interviewed... I would love to know why he hasn't taken care of his property.

I always enjoyed the Presidential suite. It's really nice. Shag carpet, air conditioning, 12 cable channels. I will miss the Myrick. I wont miss the old dudes staring at me. Kind of creepy.

It was a good thing to have all of those in one place rather than scattered out who knows where. After having been in prison, the Myrick probably wasn't all that bad for those occupants. They should have been left alone.

Am I supposed to feel sympathetic? You know you could tell little Johnny to stay away from the underage girls and to stop taking nude pictures of himself and emailing/texting them, and dicipline him when he disobeys. This behavior should raise red flags, but you seem more concerned about people turning you in. Guess what? They are doing there job! Now why don't you go do yours as as parent before little Johnny really does become a true sex offender and really hurts someone.

We, the former residents of the Myric Motel, are saddened at the demolition of this famous and cherished historic landmark. With help from our mayor, city council members, and civic association leaders - the City of Huntsville is developing a children’s park at the motels former location. The Huntsville Historic Preservation Commission (HHPC) is funding this with greatly appreciated assistance from our local taxpayers. In addition to swing sets, a Historic Marker will be erected indicting the motels historical importance and the storied history of the motels residents. An announcement will be forthcoming regarding a book reflecting the history of this famous landmark and it’s many storied residents. If you would like to join us in supporting our endeavor, please contact the HHPC, or come by our new home at the Maple Grove Motel, located at the intersection of Meridian Street and Max Luther Drive. Thank you for your support.
Thank God there are people who care about history! On Public property when a structure become 50 years old it is considered historical. It's a shame the Myrick could not be saved. The Myrick family is a nice bunch. I can't wait to send in my money !

If it was such a wonderful and grand place, why didn't the owner refurbish it? It could have been done slowly, one room at a time. I will tell you why- the owner let it get like it was. Even the Historical Society could have deemed it as a historical landmark, and recieved funding to help with the cost. The fact is that it was not like the homes in downtown Huntsville that have a special look of history, the roof was compostion shingles, not slate. The exterior was concrete blocks that had been painted. People get real when you want to whine about it being a piece of history. Is that wonderfuul little "storied residents" were sex offenders. Is the Maple Grove Motel going to become the same nasty, sleazy home to the pedophiles, rapists and child molestors too? Hmm, I wonder what historical sex offender lived there? A hotel/motel is not made to live in as ahome, it is there for a place to stay overnight, or for a week maybe, but not for an hour or for a monthly "home". The sex offenders could have stayed at a half way house, they didn't want to do that because they have rules at those places. Good bye skank motel with all of your sicko residents!

It is sad to see the news that the Myric Motel is being demolished, at least for me. My grandfather built this motel, and it was the MYRICK MOTEL. The "K" was dropped when it was sold some 35 plus years ago. It is sad to see the reports and comments coming from this historic place, and hearing what it has become. I believe the Myrick Motel and The Bon Air in Huntsville were some of the first motels in the area. I know many families lived extended periods of time in the Myrick Motel in the 1960's, when tranfers were coming in to Redstone during that period of progress. I have received several calls from Huntsville in the past weeks concerning the demolition. I hope it will be remembered by those long time residents of Huntsville in a good light. My grandfather(Myrick Construction) and father(Charles Burke Myrick) built the motel like it was done in that day, with their own hands. I remember well the long days of construction, with uncles and my maternal grandfather who was also a carpenter working along side other trades. The cafe' next door had some great food and plenty of folks to eat it. On Sundays it was a packed house. After leaving church at Jacksonway Baptist(Old Fifth Street Baptist, the family rushed to help out serving up homemade food and desserts. Thanks for the memories grandaddy .....

As a former resident of the historic Myric Motel, and a present resident of the equally historic Maple Grove Motel, I would like to set you straight. We’ve paid our debts to society for our addiction to befriending seductive young boys & girls. Building a children’s park with swings, picnic tables, and a historic marker sign at the site of the Myric Motel will give us a really nice place to play with the local kids, and also to right the wrongs that we’ve brought on society. Both of these motels many residents have much storied past, and these stories must be preserved for the children, which are our future. Please give us another chance, because we promise not to let you down. Thank you very much for being so understanding and agreeing with our position.
Is this a joke? It's not a very funny one!

I rode by the Hotel today. It is gone. But the Sign is still Proudly displayed. I wonder if the Preservation Society could get the contractor to give you the sign? It would look great with the future park and historical marker.

I must be in the twilight zone! The only thing I'll be praying for is that you crazy, sick, lunatic perverts are never, ever allowed to be close to another child or where children play.....even if that means running your sorry @$$es off the planet. The only thing you deserve is to be locked up for the rest of your miserable lives so that you can never, ever hurt or get close to another child.

Oh, and be careful mentioning the Baby Jesus around this sick perverts, they just might......well.....you get the idea.

Thank you so very much, Holden. Like the residents of the historic Myric and Maple Grove motels, young boys and girls also mesmerize me. I used to ride around Chapman Elementary School in my Jaguar, seducing young boys by offering them rides home. I finally got caught, but luckily have lots of money and was able to hire Huntsville’s top lawyers to convince the jury that I was an upstanding citizen. Thankfully they all realized that was only offering that lone boy a ride home. I have since learned what I did was wrong in this country, and now take yearly vacations to Thailand for “kathoey”(ladyboy) action, which is more acceptable in dirt-poor Godless third world countries.
I think I've heard about you. Are you the same one that doesn't make it a secret you that you like those "vacations", especially when you can meet the lovely 8-10 year old (or younger) "ladies" for a lovely evening of sexual pleasure?

Since they are preserving the sign they should also re-create the swimming pool. I remember being dropped off as a kid and swimming in it all day for a quarter. God bless the Myric!
