THE ONLY REASON WHY THEY'RE TRYING TO "ACUSE" HIM OF BEING A GANG MEMBER..IS BECAUSE THEY FEEL GUILTY OF THE WHOLE SITUATION ! TODD WASN'T APART OF A GANG..AND IF HE WAS...IT DOESN'T MAKE IT RIGHT FOR SOMEONE TO JUST TAKE HIS LIFE.

Obviously you haven't read the recent post from the police. The police said both boys were in the same gang. Open your mind instead of your mouth.

I hope other children learn a lesson from all this. that they see that gang involvement is not cool and that shooting someone does not solve a problems, but creates more. My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Todd Brown as well as the family of the shooter. I cannot imagine this is an easy time for either family. As parents we do our best to teach our children right from wrong and how to make good choices and it breaks our heart when something like this happens.

You are right, there isn't anything to justify a child being shot. However, we cannot look at this through rose colored glasses. We always want to think the best of our children and we have a natural tendency to think the best of a shooting victim. I am sure Todd Brown was the sweet, intelligent person his family knew. But we must consider the possibility that he associated with possible gang members and even talked about or expressed a wish to be in a gang. We cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that gangs exist, they recruit young children to join, and react violently to people who cross them. Accepting all possibilities is the only way to prevent future occurences.

Even if both boys were in gangs, what does it matter. This crap is just taking away from the real issues of the case. Which is what they want it to do. I've seen signs at the school that says Pray for Todd Browns Family. I am in full agreement with this. But what difference does it make on school property where God has been removed. If the shooter had been taught to respect God and his fellow human beings this might not have happen. Kids no longer respect authority figures. Put the blame where it belongs. The shooter, his parents, and the state that allows this behavior to happen. Yes kids should be protected from child abuse. But there is a differnce between abuse and good old=fashioned discipline. Its clear that time out doesn't work. Give parents and schools back the right to discipline the kids. Without fear of going to jail for child abuse. Parents come home everyday from work tired and overwhelmed. I am a parent and I understand this. But we have to get back involved in our kids lives. Spend quality family time with them and know what is going on with them and their friends. My generation didn't have this problem. We knew we had to go home and face our parents. Our kids deserve better than to go to school where they obviously have no protection. This generation of kids is our future. Pray for the families of both boys and a system that allowed this to happen. And hold all parties accountable to the full extent of the law. The shooter should be tried as an adult. But his parents and the state also need to be held accountable. When parents and the state are also held accountable maybe they'll open their eyes. Things have got to be changed in how these things are handled.

I had not seen this video. That is terrible that he could be so young and trying that hard to be in a gang. But for his folks to say that he wasnt in a gang, or had no knowledge is nuts. If not, a flat out lie. He's still the victim, I do not deffend the shooter, but respectfully, lets not say this wasnt gang related Mr and Mrs Brown.

Why do "parents" and "friends" always say the dead person was a "good person"??? He obviously wasn't sooo good or he'd still be alive.

Puuleez & Samson - That video was posted in October 2006. That would have made Todd 11. The kid in the video is definitely older than 11. Think about it. Would the authorities leave that video on youtube if it was Todd? No! They have removed the shooter's myspace. They are also monitoring twitter.

He has a mask covering most of his face... and he is fat! He could be 11 or 12, obviously you haven't hung out in some schools but there are some big kids out there.
I'm sure a lawyer could have the youtube video slowed to a perfect shot and compare it to a pic of him at that age if he really wanted to know the truth.

Well, the first thing that should be done now that a "GANG" has been found on a middle school campus is to address the seriousness of this issue. It is unfortunate that no one seemed to know a gang existed or they never wanted anyone to know, WHO KNOWS ...... But now that this has been put out there. What is the plan to stop the gangs in the middle school?

The local officials (Police, School Board, and Community) need to be addressing this very issue, If they do not no one will be safe in school.

Learn from this incident, Protect the living so that they can live.

I completely agree!!! I deal with the public very often and know that there is non adequate discipline in the environments that there needs to be. I am so sick and tired of the excuses that parents use to not discipline their children. When I was growing up, there weren't school shootings or gangs, and do you know why? Because when we misbehaved we got our tails kicked!!

When we were in school we had bullies, But the only gangs were Service organizations and school sports, Rotary Club and the like must be passe.

We were held accountable and at least my parents did hold me accountable. Sure we made mistakes but a gang in a Middle School proves other issues exist within the community that are not allowing the pervasive underlying issues that promote gangs infiltration to be addressed.

Parents in the area should demand to know hoe this happened and what the authorities are doing now and will do in the future to stop it. Demand answers...... Our children do not know better.
