I'm not really sure about your "DHR" comment, but the sad truth of the matter is that the case several years back was based mostly around a young woman with a problem with responsibility and only a nodding association with the truth and had issues with authority, who's parents overly indulged her to the point that she was "spoiled". MANY children from that era recount various stories where this poor child's lies got not only herself but others in trouble. One has to question this "second bite" at the insurance money apple, as being timed as it is to leverage false allegations in the light of the Penn State tragedy, hoping the Board would just settle regardless of how outlandish the charges

Our child is in CDS. We've met the Naff's on several occasions. We have no doubt as to Mr. Naff's innocence. I'm sorry your child couldn't thrive in a self driven, self motivated, and ultimately self responsible environment until they were older it seems, since they "sound" like they're doing well now. Our child is thriving and is leaps and bounds above peers in conventional, public schooling.

To Huntsville Parent: My child has always "thrived". And by your comments, you have little understanding of past events. I know about this girl. We were all there. Were you? What you don't know about is ALL the the other shenanigans Naff engaged in with our children during school hours and sporting events. Whatever the outcome of this case, I know what he did to MY child. Believe as you may about his innocence, it does not change fact. Maybe one day, you will see beyond his very convincing but fake facade. Until that day, I can only wish you and your family the very best. Your words seem foolish to those that are reading this post and know the truth.

This is not the case. Private or independant schools do not have to provide "certified" teachers. Ask to see a list of credentialed and currently certified faculty-surprising.

I have witnessed this teacher humiliate my child. I watched as he told my child to shut up and that no one cared about her. I watched

Brett's mother's hatred and denial and bizarre methods of punishment unfold in front of me. I have watched as three medical doctors and two psychiatrists documented the effects this physical and mental abuse had on my child. Brett Naff is a dangerous man-his hatred and personal failure are worn directly upon his sleeve, and the only employment he can secure is through his family. This school is a delightfully enchanting building, but has sinister secrets and mental illnesses writing checks for payroll. Be careful-listen to your child, and do not dismiss the things you see and choose to over-look-your child may lose her soul in the end.....
I will be in the courtroom with my child, as well as other parents who need to see this to the end--she deserves to see that someone else was brave and finally stood up to be heard-
May this young woman get every cent and every apology and yell from the highest building that finally, this man was stopped. Lastly, being "spoiled" surely is not one of the better reasons for abuse of a child-may you never know the pain of countless other parents who are praying that justice will finally be served.

"Strict on the kids"- indeed
Here are behavior methods Brett proudly used and advertised as helpful, with the support of his mother:

Making children sit on concrete, hands under legs or behind back, facing the outdoor wall, for more than an hour at a ttime.

Humiliating the pre-teen boys by forcing them to remove shirts for sports.

Slapping students on the bottom to correct bad behavior.

Screaming to the pointof spit into children's faces.

Consistabtly using the words shut-up, and yelling obscenities.

Telling boys to stop being "wusses" and "pansy asses".

This man has no teaching, psychological, or social work training. Such a fancy school, such a frightening gamble for a parent to take-is it worth it to ignore your instincts???

CDS has certified teachers (a couple have Masters Degrees as well), they also have a parent advisory board and the money made is put back into improving the school. Please just talk to families who have had children there for many years...from preschool-8th grade. This is an allegation and the attacks are from a group of vindictive people.
This school is TOP NOTCH. The teachers give individualized attention to each child. Their curriculum is

individualized for each child. Do not listen to the allegations and disgruntled parents. These people let their kids run all over them and don't like it when a teacher actually expects the kids to do what they should do and listen to them.
It's a challenging job to teach and we respect Mr. Naff. He is hands down a wonderful teacher.
A curriculum does not exist in middle school. Grades do not exist. It is a holding pen for children.
We are not"disgruntled"; we took our child out so fast that we actually told them to keep all of our money and ran to the car- ask around-just be careful with your kids.

In addition, the attorney did not say she was the "same student." You had rather blast someone without your facts being straight; and, if you're wrong, it's the "jury's" [sic] fault. I hope no one comes after either one of you with vicious lies.
Gigi- these posts that you call ignorant? These are all Country day students, speaking their minds, proudly showing what a seven thousand dollar a year education at this peacefull, koi and waterfall filled, individualized approach alternative can do! Such a strong curriculum....

To Former Parent who said, "Mom Naff has ultimate say in what goes on in her business. She has no one who oversees her." Please, wake up. This is an accredited school by the Southern Association. In addition, it has an accedited faculty and is state approved. Do not think that Sherri Naff can do anything she wants. Our government, especially when dealing with schools, does not play. In addition, libel laws are still alive and well in the state of Alabama Brett Naff has never been found guilty of any crime.

To "former mom"--these are not students writing these posts. These are vindictive parents from 5-7 years ago who wished to run a school "their" way. Their children weren't "Apauled" [sic], their parents were. However, it is "appalling." that you want to blame these posts on former students.

I know that private or independent schools do not have to provide teachers who are livensed in the state of Alabama but may CHOOSE to do so. My understanding (at least what I was told when I toured the school) is that CDS teachers in elementary and middle school do hold Alabama teaching certificates.

As I mentioned, my child is in the preschool program which we both love. My intention was never to continue past preschool. That is why I wanted to know other parents' experiences with that program.

Has there been a suit for libel? From court records it appears that there have been two "buy out" settlements-no? Do we live in a country or state that prosecutes without reasonable evidence? We take no happiness from the re-curring arrests and trials;we wish the man no un-earned heart-break-we want our children to simply be heard. Who has time for libel? Time will heal, and in time truth prevails. We are confident our truth will finally be believed.

It may be that your child has wonderful teachers. There had been some wonderful teachers at the school 7 years ago. The problem is that your tuition keeps the school running. If you found out your favorite restaurant funded acts of terrorism which killed many innocent people, but they also served great food, would you continue to eat there??? There were so many innocent children this man hurt. He would pray on the weak or troubled or physically challenged. Let me describe a game that Naff and his soccer team used to play. He would make a very heavy kid on the team take off his shirt in the indoor soccer gym and then yell "Handle Tag!" At that point all the kids on the soccer team would begin shooting soccer balls at this poor boy's gut or "love handles". For every accurate shot, you would receive a point. This game would usually end with this boy crying on the gym floor, then Naff would yell "Allright now, that's enough, we've had our fun!" These are the kind of crazy cruel things he did with OUR children. The public humiliation, the "gang" mentality. It's disgusting. This girl, whom one of the posters said "lied and got others in trouble with her lies"...that is accurate. It would make sense that he would single her out. After all, who would ever believe her???

Our son was also a victim of this humiliation. When we had him confront Brett to tell him how humiliated he was, Naff began screaming into his face that he was a liar, a lazy quitter, and to shut up because he had all the boys take off their shirts that day. I was standing there. I have a PhD, and I have no use for idle gossip on a blog. Repairing this damage will take years-we have lost a part of our child to this man's mental illness.
This is not an old story-ours just happened last year, and we pray it will finally end.

Since when are criminal charges a bite at the insurance apple? Sounds to me like this is another CDS spin. These are serious charges and they are criminal. You are so proud of yourself, you're dumb. I'm glad your child is above their peers. That's awesome. Maybe she can handle being sodimized better than this girl did since she is so well adjusted in this awesome thriving environment you have her in.

And....

Making a student eats ants off the floor as punishment while the rest of us watched and laughed.

Told one student to put wax in another students ear for punishment while the rest of us watched and laughed.

Had the entire class pressure players into quitting all other sports but soccer by calling them gay and faggots for playing other sports. Naff encouraged us to treat each other this way and actually spear headed this behavior out of us. If we didn't follow his lead we were the ones being ridiculed and called gay and faggots. The verbal atracks we were subjected to for not "following" his gangster lead was relentless.

Had the entire class physically attack one boy in our class because he was different. He took us out in the woods by the creek and told us all to jump him. I was attacked as well for helping the boy.

Duck Taped one kids mouth shut in class for talking.

Played a game he called "under the cover" on the couch with a certain girl daily. He told us it was just a game but seriously....looking back on it now...what upstanding adult does that???

Naff always directed the kids to do the delinquent acts to other kids and if you refused, he would direct them to attack you and punish you. He used us as his scape goat by making us do most of the unethical dirty work to each other. If we refused, we paid dearly because there was always a few kids he had total control over because he had something on them that they didn't want their parents to know. Such was the case with the one we called "his girl" as well as a handful of others.

I personally witnessed this man mistreat and abuse students for years. I hope they finally get him this time and for those of you parents who think he's wonderful? Honestly......what do you know?

Ok, Ms. PHD who raised a son that was emotionally damaged by a few time-outs and a shirts/skins athletic competition. It seems you were unable to make your case 7 years ago in front of a jury, because it's hard to prove a lie is true. Don't forget readers, this woman is throwing out the EXACT same lies that a judge and jury heard years ago, and rejected for the untruths they are, and therefore she was unable to get her expected payday, which is what she expected, just settle and let the insurance pay for it to keep out the scandal, which is what happens 9 times out of ten in these disgruntled parent cases. Their "angel" could not be wrong.

Brett Naff is innocent of the charges leveled at him 7 years ago. Fact. Heard by a jury and declared NOT GUILTY, not charges dropped, not settled out of court, NOT GUILTY. IF a DA even brings this bogus charge to court, I 100% expect a jury to render the same verdict of NOT GUILTY.

As I've said before, as a parent of a child in Mr Naff's class I can assure you that while strict, he's exhibited none NADA zero of this bizarre described behavior described by the "former parent", aside from an expectation that the children participate in class, do their homework, and get along with one another, with the penalty of TIME OUT being the punishment.

As my child isn't a member of Coach Naff's team, I can't speak to that aspect, but I had some pretty rough coaches in my day, and a few insults were the least of problems, miles and miles and miles of laps being foremost in my memory. I think most adult males would remember the same of a coach or two.

Dear Parent:

Apparently you have no clue as to what the actual facts were concerning the case 7 years ago nor do you understand what the charges are today and who they are with nor do you understand that they are all separate cases, separate people with separate experiences. Its clear that you are passionate about your feelings towards Mr. Naff. The interesting thing is that this girl's parents were as well while she was attending this school. Most parents are great fans of his while their children are still "in" there. I am none of the parents that you seem to have intermingled in your mind that you reference above but I am very aware of the details of all the separate cases referred to above. I suggest that before you passionately and blindly defend a man and call those who hold him accountable as liars that you actually educate yourself with the facts. Good luck to you. I truly hope you don't become another number in the Naff saga as so many previous parents have become who were once passionate about this man. Good luck to you.
