More than 200 Hispanic students failed to show up for school in Huntsville Thursday, the day after a federal judge allowed most of Alabama's new immigration enforcement law to take effect.

The state of Alabama is required by federal law to find out the condition and status of the missing children to ensure that they receive an education. Alabama cannot forgo the federal dollars as those dollars make up about 75% of the Alabama education budget.

But if they are on the move, the truant officer cannot locate them...they don't usually leave a forwarding address. When and if they register their kids in another school system in another state, then the AL school system can formally consider them as withdrawn. Yes, ADA is an important factor to a school systems, but because there will not be the need for as many ELL programs, schools will regroup and in the end breathe a sigh of relief and get back to teaching as usual.

OSHA rules prevent kids from being on the worksite. Next time take a picture, get the address, get the name of the company and file a complaint. The contractor will get fined. Oh you can also call the cops. I did and the kids were put on the curb for the remainder of the day.
