It nice that the police were not hurt in anyway and it's sad that he made them have to shoot him. We need to support our police officers more than we do!!!!

Loss of life is unfortunate in any situation. The police have the responsibility of protecting themselves as well as public so when someone conducts themselves violently toward civilians and police armed with a potentially deadly weapon the police have no other choice but to react with deadly force. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved. A family lost someone they loved and these officers will live forever with the thought of killing someone on their mind.

The police officers there had the responsiblity to protect themseleves, the residents of that neighborhood, the paramedics and firefighters that resoponded to that call. My friends and co-workers responded to that call. We are thankful to our police officers who made a difficult choice. We are proud of them and believe we have the finest department of HONORABLE men and women around.

I thought the police are trained in self defence, two or three deputies should be able to disarm a man with a knife. Why take a life when they could of save one.

Fortunately for Bill and Mr Shoelaces, we can't yet shoot people on sight for poor grammar or the first degree murder of the king's english. That day will come soon enough. Until then, my brothers and I will be working hard to protect everyone except you. I wouldn't want to force our unwanted services on you. You might wake up disenfranchised one day or something worse.

Fact of the matter is there is nothing that can be said besides, you feel sorry for the people involved because you have no idea what you would do in a situation like that until you are confronted with the decision yourself.

oscar: As a former LEO and firearms trainer, I can provide you with PROOF that a determined individual armed with a knife can advance on you and KILL you from a distance of 21 feet BEFORE a weapon can be drawn.

As our society becomes more and more violent, we will surely see this more often. However, instead of second guessing the them, the public should stand behind the officers, who risk life and limb every day to protect them.

Always keep an open mind and look at both sides. We don't have to call people names just because we don't agree with them. That is ignorance also.

the real problem is that they either didn't have or didn't use alternatives to lethal force. All officers should be equipped with tazers and / or tranquilizers. This kind of thing does not have to happen as often as it does. If there is more than one officer, have others with guns drawn, and one or more hitting the victim with electricity or tranquilizers ... anyone with a knife will drop it when they are hit ... if not, and he somehow holds on, THEN shoot him.

Trigger happy cops? Don't make me laugh! Do you know how many officers there are in Huntsville, or how many police involved shootings there have been? The ratio is extremely low. You say you could have taken the man down with a "knightstick"(sic)? Why don't you try disarming a man armed with a knife. It is a proven fact that, at a distance of 21 feet or less, an attacker wielding a knife can cut you before you can draw a weapon and defend yourself. If this man were attacking you, how long would you wait to defend yourself? Why should a police officer be injured before he defends himself? Wake up, people! Defend the officers who protect you! Can you imagine society without police officers?

Every incident doesn't have to be met with deadly force, remember we are dealing with human life. Sometimes we forget that. This is not a deer we are shooting. The police are professionals they know different ways to take down a suspect. I praise our officers, but I will not pretend they don't do things wrong also, and I am not saying this is one of the instances where they did anything wrong but they are human and the make mistakes just like we do.

name: LEOs work under the principle of 'force continuum' which governs their actions/reactions. Under such guidelines, their decision to use deadly force WAS justified.
