I drive the 315 "Derby" everyday, and I am glad to see the police finally do something about the arrogant drivers who think speed limits do not apply to them. I wonder, do we really need a 0.5%payroll tax increase? I think if Coleman put a proper police contigent on city streets and freeways, we could raise that deficit in a jiffy. Thanks to the people who drive expensive cars and think laws do not apply to them.

Nice to see a police officer advocate flogging. A fine representative of the department. What a fool.

Just slow down! It's your fault if you get a ticket. It's the easiest thing to control. Wait until next year to speed when thee is NO traffic bureau

The other section they should heavily patrol is 670 where it goes from 65 to 55, that would help the budget as well.
The Columbus Income Tax, if it doesn't pass, they won't cut police and fire, its a scare tactic.

Nice to see that they can give tickets to everyone but someone related to their own Department.

If the police would just be consistant about the enforcement..........
For a week they hit it really hard........then you won't see them for a couple weeks.......
The speed limit is 45 NOT only because the workers might be there.....but because the lanes have been narrowed..........

It's hard to believe this isn't about money to some extent.

Most highway construction zone injuries and deaths are not caused by motorists.

OK, Bob, it's about money. But if safety of workers happens to be enhanced then it's worth it. I wouldn't want to stand before a judge with the only excuse for the death of a construction worker being "I was running late." Would you?

The increased presence is nice and I live with a construction worker so I am concerned about their safety but also I think the state deficit and police officers jobs being on the line has more of the motivation behind this.

Along with increased fines the lawmakers need to maybe double or triple the points value of the tickets that are issued in a construction zone. Take away the legal right to drive... a true wakeup call

"If, for example, I stopped somebody and they said I am allowed to flog him and that would reduce accidents, I would flog him," Devennish said

I guess that means he would support POLICE BRUTALITY as long as it would reduce accidents.

Hey Devennish - I know you're gonna read these comments .. listen pal, you're a cop - nothing more! Don't let it go to your head now! "We're gonna hammer them" huh? Oooooh! Tough guy! Now make sure this weekend you don't have drinks with your fellow cops .. and drive afterwards - we ALL know you wouldn't dare do that! You're a cop! Please - relax Francis!

It's all about money. If public safety were a concern, why doesn't CPD allocate resources to preventing violent crime--rape, robbery, murder, etc. Walk a beat and patrol neighborhoods, rather than sitting in a cruiser and picking off the low hanging fruit. If voters approve a tax increase, I sure hope it is put to better use than writing tickets to people who are going a whole ten miles over an arbitrary speed limit.

If it's all about the money then just slow down. Deny the man his sole means of support (and entertainment?).

Here's a thought, the police have to go faster than the posted speed limit to catch you? If so are they not doubling/ increasing the chance of a accident?

City officials are crying that they need an income tax increase for police and fire fighters. With the money that is collected in fines, shouldn't that reduce the overall tax dollars needed to fund the police department? Where is all the fine money going? Could it be going in someone's pocket? Vote NO for the income tax increase.

Daily Horoscope for December 5

Leo

Your sunny temperament has returned, dear Leo, as the Sun and Venus dance in Sagittarius and the marvellous Moon shines in your sign. Whatever the day has to offer, it should bring you some pleasure and laughter, so arrange something nice if you don't have anything planned. Your power to charm is considerable right now and it will make you a big hit with whoever gets the full force of it. But don't give someone the come-on if you don't mean it.
