If this is true, the teacher should be docked 2 hours pay. What a crock. The average teacher in WV makes mid 40k EVERY YEAR and they want a raise!?! Plus all the benefits!?!
According to the West Virginia Education Association, the average teacher in the state makes about $45,000.

You truly are a sad individual...... What's wrong, you drop out of school and now can't get a job anywhere except McDonalds? Your welfare check not high enough for you? Or what? Maybe your wife left you for a teacher... Some reason you have a vendetta against people that actually work..... If you aren't happy with your pay. Or your job, better yourself and do something with yourself instead of bitching on Topix all of the time.......

You obviously have no concept of what "salary" means nor can you comprehend the fact that teachers are contracted for 200 days, 180 of those with children.... And that is what they will work, no matter if they are off for a month in a row, they will still work 200 days, I have no idea why you can't comprehend that.....

Can we please let this topic die and rest in peace? It shouldn't have even gotten this big because the OP is obviously a troll who wanted to see this exact thing happen. He wanted to rile people up. Think about it, no sane person would continue to state the same ignorant point over and over even though the matter has been clarified for him several times. He's just a troll.

Let it go, everyone. Quit responding. Trolls stop when they get no attention. Let this post fade into Topix oblivion.

Both of you are a joke. Teachers work 200 days and that's what they get paid for. So the days that are missed really doesn't matter bc they still will work the 200 days they are contracted for and get paid the same. And for the comment about being over paid they don't get paid enough to do everything they have to do and put up with. You should try to last a week in their shoes. It's hard work and they work over and don't get paid for it. They put time in before and after school and summer time. They use their own money to buy your children paper and pencils. So before you go running your mouth you need to get some facts.

I do no a lot of students that started out there 1st yr of college wanting to be a teacher till they find out what the starting pay is. You could get a managers job at McDonald's for that and not have to pay back a student loan the rest of your life. I no a lot of teachers that also hold a second job during school yr and summer

WV. Ranks 48th In the country in teacher pay..... And you all wonder why all of the good teachers go out of state to work.... You realize most teachers have a 5year masters degree, and contiunue to take college courses for their entire career? Any other field that an employee has 1 maybe 2 masters degrees will pay 2-3 times more than what a teacher makes here. I say give them 10k dollar raise... Bring their pay up on par with other states. Then you will attract better teachers.

And two.. teachers are NOT babysitters...... That is how most parents treat them, the wonder why teachers won't give that parent the time of day...

Chalk another one up for giving away our tax dollars. Do I think there should be school today? Absolutely not. Should teachers get paid today? Absolutely not.

You are literally the biggest idiot I've ever seen on these forums. Teachers get paid for a certain number of days, just like anyone else with a salary. They will make up as many days as they can at the end of the year without going past the date set by government. Not to mention the fact that most teachers get behind from snow days & work late into the evenings (even later than normal) to make up for lost time. My mother is an elementary teacher & doesn't get home until 5/5:30 every evening on NORMAL days, so she ends up working about an hour longer than people with 8-5 jobs WITHOUT OVERTIME PAY since she gets to her school around 7:15. I honestly hope you don't have children.
