Both of you are a joke. Teachers work 200 days and that's what they get paid for. So the days that are missed really doesn't matter bc they still will work the 200 days they are contracted for and get paid the same. And for the comment about being over paid they don't get paid enough to do everything they have to do and put up with. You should try to last a week in their shoes. It's hard work and they work over and don't get paid for it. They put time in before and after school and summer time. They use their own money to buy your children paper and pencils. So before you go running your mouth you need to get some facts.

Bs. A small minority may buy a few supplies.

Most of the teachers I hang out with brag about still being compensated when school is closed and do not do work from home regardless of what you think.

For their work schedule and cushy hours they put in, I agree that they are over compensated. I also think that they do not deserve to be compensated when school is closed. They should only be compensated when they show up for work.

I don't have children so you can throw your argument about them buying supplies for my kids in the trash.

We have to make up the days. It's actually very inconvenient because it messes up the lessons I have planned for this week. Thanks for you support, jerks.

Teachers are contracted for 200 days. Period. Contrary to popular belief, teachers don't get paid over the summer; teachers can ELECT to have their pay from the school year (10 months) over all 12 months.
Sure, there are crappy teachers out there, just like there are people in EVERY profession who aren't particularly good at their jobs. It would be inappropriate to judge every _______ by the actions and performance of a few.
Teachers spend more waking hours with school-aged children during the week than their parents, shouldn't they be encouraged and supported in their communities instead of disparaged because of missing instructional days due to sub-zero temperatures (Cabell teachers worked both days) and now missing a day because of a snow storm?

There's no way you hang out with any teachers. You would not have said this if you did. Teachers know they do not get compensated for snow days/days off. They sign a 200 day contract, which means they only get paid for 200 days that they show up. That includes 180 days they teach kids and 20 days they must come for in service days. Any day missed from that contract has to be made up. Also, teachers don't get paid for time off in the summer. They can opt to receive paychecks in the summer, but what that means is money is held from their paychecks they get during the year and then given to them in the summer. Please don't lie to give yourself "credibility" to speak about something you have no clue about!

Bs again.

Teachers start each year with 15 sick and personal days they can use. FIFTEEN????

This ridiculous policy encourages high teacher absenteeism.

Yes I socialize with plenty of teachers and they all giggle about how they have it made from time to time.

15? Wow. Is this in addition to the ISE, snow days, holidays, and weekends off?
Who else on the planet makes $45k for a part time job, has every summer, every holiday, and everytime the weather is bad gets to stay home...
I am an RN, and I gotta drag my ass to work 51 weeks a year, on every holiday, and every weekend, and still only make $40k a year.
Teachers need to stfu
You need to stfu. No teacher in this state makes $45k unless they have been working many years. Pay scales for most counties are available for the public right on county websites.

I have the utmost respect for nurses, but not when they complain about their schedule. It is no secret nurses' schedules suck. You knew that going into it. STFU and quit complaining.

Factor in your benefits and you're well over 40K per year for working far less than full time hours.
45k--Not exactly

Most teachers make no where near 45k....even with advance degrees and years it takes nearly 20 years of teaching to reach 45,000/year. The pay scale is available on the Cabell County Schools website.

What part of what I said is BS? If you socialize with so many teachers, you would know what I posted previously is 100% true. So why are you saying "BS again"? Teacher sick days have nothing to do with snow days or days off in the summer. And so what they get 15 days? The board actually monitors absences and they will question you when you get close to the allowed days. Please tell me how that encourages absenteeism?
Nope

Please stop posting. You're clearly an idiot. Let me put it so you understand. TEACHERS. DO. NOT. GET. PAID. ON. SNOW DAYS. OR. HOLIDAYS. OR. FOR. THE. SUMMER. Now shut up and go troll on another topic.

Lol! Maybe you should work for a different company if you are an RN that only makes $40k. I don't know one teacher that makes $45k unless they coach a sport and teach summer school. Don't be mad because you don't get snow days and they do. Sounds like someone is throwing a little temper tantrum over there. It will be ok in the morning honey..haha

Seems to me people should stop bitching about it, because obviously nobody else chose that as a career and they did. So they made an awesome choice, go them, but don't hate them now because you didn't make that same choice. And if you are really upset about it then you should probably take it up with someone that has a little more power, because they didn't choose their pay or how it's distributed. I'm sure the people had a vote in it somewhere along the line.

$40K. Do you work at a nursing home? That's really low compared to what the RN's I know are making.
