Oh and you people who underreport your tips - hope you like that tiny social security check when you're retiring since it's based on your income.

That's what I would tell anyone I know also.

Why do you idiot food servers think you are entitled to play on your little "smart phones" while you are taking care of MY FOOD. I cannot stand to see you little bratty college / high school students constantly texting or wrapping up silverware when I am trying to eat my meal. Do you not realize I pay your salary and tips with my patronage? It is plain gross to see this. Cant you morons disconnect from your cyberworld and focus on people RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU? Guess what, I might start using my phone and recording you doing this crap and then put your immature actions online.

Can't your sitter call the business phone where you work if there is an EMERGENCY? I just don't get how some people think they "gotta be able to be reached" every time their kid farts. Calls at work should be emergency only or a VERY rare personal call.
Fact check - before cell phones came around, humanity survived. Can you believe it? People were actually only allowed emergency calls at work and did not walk around with walkie talkies in their pockets just so they can be reached if little junior had the runs. I can certainly understand if a child has a medical condition and the parent must be reached for information, etc, but that rarely is the case.
Folks, we have a serious problem with the current generation of young adults who feel the need to "stay connected" at all times. Cell phones in the workplace are a huge productivity killer.
Yeah, and before we had cars people walked. From the sounds of it, you don't do a whole lot of that.

You also are obviously oblivious to the world moving ahead around you. Everyone is connected, this is not a "young adult" thing. Everyone has a smartphone, from 14 year olds, to your high school students, to the damned college kids serving you more calories than you should ingest, all the way up to your doctor inputting your medical history into an iPad and the pastor down the street giving a sermon with a PowerPoint off of his laptop.

You're not better than anyone, you're just more cynical than everyone. Technology is a part of the world you live in whether you like it or not, and it makes this world more productive, not less. Get your head out of your ass and lighten the hell up.

Topic is people bitching about servers using smartphones and, using your word, being too "connected" to the point they weren't doing their jobs.

My point was everybody uses this stuff, everyone "stays connected," and stating that "humanity survived" prior to cell phones is ***king retarded in regard to the OP. Sounds like you need to go back and read the post I quoted, which was your own.

And George, sure this person is connected and posting, which illustrates the irony of complaining about people being connected in the first place. But that's yet another off topic point that you'll want to make two more posts to discuss if you can tolerate the hypocrisy of it.

Need to disconnect while they are working is what I took from the o.p. no reason for a server to be using a phone while working.

Probably should. I don't care personally as long as I don't see it, they get what I order correctly, and don't make me wait longer than needed. But essentially calling cell phones the downfall of society is jumping the shark.

Servers: I wait tables to support my family. I understand and completely agree guest should NEVER see restaurant employees on cell phones. Not while "branded." (Wearing restaurant colors/logos) We have a very flexible job that is very different for the vast majority of work in the world. Be smart. Goto the kitchen.

Guest: The whole ownership thing...little overboard. Moving along. You are purchasing a product, therefore do not put yourself in the situation where u can't buy the whole product. Here is a pop quiz. What is the AVERAGE gratuity that should be left for a server? That means you got fairly good service. Polite server. Smiles. Recommends a deal, drink, or appetizer. Your order makes it to you hot and close to accurate,(sometimes u can't help a kitchen mistake) but if not accurate the sever acts with a sense of urgency and fixes said problem? Drink stays full, phrase bottomless drinks. 18% Average. And for the type of service I listed. 20% that means if u spend 200 bucks on dinner. You should spend about 240 (depending on your service maybe a lil more!) If u can't afford to tip. Or act like you are gods gift to earth because you came to our restaurant to eat. Please goto McDonald's or cook at home for all that

Lmao...the servers around here are not worth a $40 tip....i dont giv away close to $50 based on some traditional mathmatical tip equation just for somebody bringing me my food and drinks...ive never made 40 an hour in my life and im surely not going to hand it over to a smartass "server" just for taking my order and bringing me 2 sodas...Just cause i spent $200 doesnt mean a smartass kid gets 20% just for being there...thats ok if the bill is 30 dollars but if i spent $500 in food for my family or group do you really think a server should earn $100 for an hour and a half of bringing me drinks?...talk about acting like "Gods Gift" geez....
