West Virginia Governor Joe Manchin believes state's floods are an act of God

Gov. Joe Manchin has visited the flood-devastated areas of Mingo County several times over last weekend and since. But what else has the governor been up to? Well, I caught a little bit of his discussion with Hoppy Kercheval (who is broadcasting live from Gilbert) on MetroNews Talkline.The governor was praising local coal companies (including Massey Energy and Buck Harless’ International Industries) for sending out heavy equipment and crews to help with the cleanup. Manchin didn’t mention....

Governor Manchin has, in fact, visited MINGO County several times, however, he has not been to WYOMING County, where there were also millions of dollars in damages and many people have lost everything. Channel 3 or Channel 13 have done very little coverage in Wyoming County. When asked why, they say it is not their coverage area....well, whose coverage area is it? They say a station that is not even on the cable in this area. In fact, yesterday a newsman came to WYOMING County to interview a young man who lives in WYOMING County about a video he has posted on youtube about the flooding. The interview was conducted in WYOMING County, the video began in WYOMING County and ended in WYOMING County, however, when the piece was on the news last night, there was ABSOLUTELY NO MENTION OF WYOMING COUNTY, both Tim Irr and Brad Myers, the newsman both only spoke of MINGO County. This is just as bad as everyone in other states referring to West Virginia as Virginia. This is very frustrating to the residents and businesses in Wyoming County that have suffered devastating damage from the flood.

The post was about flooding. Not about some idiot's crusade to stop MTR which had nothing to do with the flooding. Go to one of the counties mentioned and drive around. After almost 2 weeks of rain the area got 4 to 7 additional inches of rain over a few hours. Theres more hollows with no MTR flooded than with MTR.

Something funny to me, when the state got quite a bit of rain a few years ago the streets of Charleston flooded. I guess Mountain Top Removal caused that!??

I was in Myrtle Beach about 7-8 years ago on vacation and it received a bunch of rain. I am assuming when the main street flooded people blamed Mountain Top Removal for causing that one too!??

Sometimes we just get more water than the ground can hold. Its just the idiots that speak when they shouldn't that helps give mining a bad rep. If they only realized how ignorant they sound.

Ok. I just happened upon this SECOND tirade about nobody caring about Wyoming county. You need to get a grip and stop whining because the governor didn't come to your town. He came to the hardest hit town in the most widely hit county. The center of operations for The Red Cross AND The National Guard. Give me a freaking break with this bullshit already. If 100 square miles of wyoming county got flooded, I can see where you would have an argument, but only a small portion was affected, and they were included in the disaster declaration. You are getting aid, tetanus shots for free, donations, hot dogs from churches, everything that Mingo county has gotten except a visit from the Governor and a few minutes of air time!! Grow your immature self up and get a freaking clue!! I can't stand to see people be so outright dumb!

It blows my mind that people are so being so childish about this kind of stuff. Turn your computer off and grab a shovel. Move some mudd for your neighbor. Make hot dogs for people who are working too hard to cook. Go through your old clothes and donate them to people who have lost their belongings. I am glad that the people of Mingo and Wyoming are getting their declaration but there are some people in MacDowell that got flooded and will not receive any help my neighbors house got completely destoried by a landside who is going to help his family. Also I know of some that got flooded. Where are they going to go for help?

Why in the HELL would anyone have a problem with banning guns in STATE PARKS?? You're just mad because you can't poach so easily now! There shouldn't be any reason in the world someone would have a need to take a gun to a state park!
Byrd is getting older, but he's a powerful asset for our state. He has alot of peoples respect in Washington, and that is good for WV. He's done literally thousands of good things for residents of our state, and brought hundreds of millions for projects over the years.

You shouldn't take your gun to state park in the first place! There shouldn't need to be a law to tell people something that is common sense. Stop being dumb.
