I just messed up typing and once you post it you can not correct it so chill out and besides this post is to help people know what nursing homes are good and bad not a post about grammar! You all apparently do not know how to READ or you would have read that this is about nursing homes not grammar. Thanks

Genesis behind the Post Office around 11th st. east was wonderful to someone we knew who was there for rehab. They really seem to care more than most nursing home/rehab facilities

I used to work for Genesis at some of their facilities in Charleston. The one your talking about is named Heritage Manor. I have never been in one of their facilities that was dirty or smelled. All their staff seem caring and attentive.

For anyone wanting to find info on nursing homes, their statistics, and the latest Medicare surveyor results can go to this address to find all the info you need to begin an objective decision about the prospective facility.

http://www.medicare.gov/NHCompare/Include/Dat...

This address will open a page where you can do a search. It will help indicate how many beds the facility has, how many beds were open the last time they checked, staffing ratios, latest survey results, and other pertient information.

However, having worked in Nursing Homes/Skilled Facilities for quite some time, begin at the web address for the initial information, then make sure you make a visit. You don't need to schedule an appointment, and the person who usually conducts tours should be more than happy to show you around and give you all the information you need.

Also, please be understandeable with the staff if you show up around breakfast, lunch or dinner. There is a lot of work to do and someone may not be able to help you right away. After all, their primary responsibility isnt you, it's the clients that live there!

While this is true, the stat's on 'staffing' from these websites shows HOW MANY THE FACILITY IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE per resident. I have personally seen 'fudged' numbers by NHA's and Staffing Coordinators in order to save their own butts.
The medical field has an ever increasing number of patients, clients, and residents with an alarming amount of shortages within the workforce. Unfortunately, alleged drug, client, and coworker abuse goes on in ALL facilities across the country and has become detrimental to the staffing shortages already at hand. Nurses, CNA's, PCA's and other tech's are being overworked by all facilities. Hopefully, caregivers and admin's will eventually wise up and start searching new ways to weed out the bad and keep the good.
As for our Tristate area; I've never stepped foot into a facility that I would put any of my family members in. Home Health is the way to go with your loved ones.

My grandmother was there when it was mariner nursing home. She had excellent care there, but she had an aide named Glenda who really cared and made her stay comfortable. When the family transferred her to Logan even though everyone was nice, she was just a patient they had to take care of. My mom was at huntington rehab after she lost her toe for a short time, and we had no complaints

Best option...screw the whole thing and care for family members with in home care. Then you don't have to worry about less than adequate care and respect. Everyones toooooooo busy and stressed to take care of their own, an embarrassment of our culture!!
