Ok and what if an inmate is on here for fighting andvprotecting themselves. A guard beats an inmate and that's ok. NO! No not at all. the guards are more of a criminals than half of the inmates. Any guard that is involved in beating pne should also be sitting in a cell right next to them. they arr no bettrr. they ate regular citizen's just like the rest of it. they get on a power trip. i think its sad that these cowards have to beat someone that is in lock down and has no means to defend themselves. its just just onr guard at a time. its more like 4 or 5 on onr. that seem fair. right? no, not at all. trust me it is not a hilton. they are treatrd terible!

I am a little jealous... Our tax dollars are paying for these freeloading bums to get the Hilton treatment in jail until they get out, and the guards are the only ones that get to beat them!?! They should let the tax payers take a trip down there once a week and pick a few to beat on!

Sounds to me like some of these people just can't obey the law. I am a nurse at the regional and I regret to inform everyone that we do have females here...so you haven't a clue what youre talking about. Also, it is possible to love a job in corrections. Nothing makes me feel better than knowing a help & make a difference with these inmates every day. Where else can you say you've helped repeat offenders through addiction, child molesters reform, parental neglect predators give a crap. Only at Western Regional Jail. I personally feel as if magic kingdom would be appropriate for a name change, because here is where dreams come true :)
It is possible to help an addict stop using and you might even be able to teach someone to be a better parent but you cannot reform a child molester and claiming to do so is dangerous. I think it is great that you like helping people but please educate yourself on child molesters before your magic kingdom crashes down on your head.

CHARLESTON, W.Va.(AP)-- West Virginia's regional jail chief is concerned about what he calls a "buddy system" among guards at the Western Regional Jail.

Regional Jail and Correctional Facility Authority executive director Joe DeLong says 15 correctional officers at the Barboursville jail are on suspension.

Some are accused of using excessive force against inmates. Others allegedly brought contraband into the jail.

DeLong says some of the guards are accused of helping to cover up wrongdoing. That concerns him more than the use of force.

DeLong voiced his concerns Monday during an appearance before an interim legislative committee. DeLong told lawmakers that the authority wants to install surveillance cameras in the regional jails. But it will require a significant investment of funds.

no inmates will talk, some inmates will be there awhile. They will have to check all inmates that had to have medical treatment in jail or in the ER

I was in the jail many months ago and was beaten by about 8 guards. As they were taking me to the nurse they said make sure its not on camera. I had bruises on my legs for weeks. I know I was in jail but it didn't give them a right to attack me... come on 8 to 1 ... I am after all a female who weighs 130 pounds. I reported it back then and nothing ever came of it. Glad I dont live in that area anymore. Bet they wouldn't try fighting someone one on one... They would get seriously hurt or worse. What they did to me was wrong.

I'd probably think, "I bet next time they'll remember this before they do some stupid shit that lands them in jail."

This is just one of the many reasons jail sucks. Personally, I've never had my ass kicked in jail using this one easy trick - I don't break the law and get put in jail.

Agreed! Although I doubt the abuse is truly happening as described on "Flopix". Most of these cases are loser convicts trying to scheme and scam with bogus charges. I agree with your premise though that if you decide to break the law often enough and subsequently get pinched then you pretty much got it comin.

Ok so then with your theory and the opinion of the others that believe it is the inmates fault they got beat because they "put themselves in the position to get arrested in the first place" it could be said that a person that is hit and seriously injured or killed by a drunk driver in another vehicle is also at fault because they knew that drunk drivers are common on our roads today and chose to drive anyway. Don't get me wrong, i agree with the members that have said jail should not equal a vacation on the taxpayers' dime but I also don't want my tax dollars going to pay the salaries of guards and other jail employees that abuse their power and also break the law by beating, injuring, molesting, or otherwise causing harm to inmates. I feel this way because a) they are in fact breaking the law by abusing inmates and b) it then costs taxpayers even more to house the inmates because they are then having to pay for an escalated amount of medical bills from injuries sustained during those beatings. Plus, while MOSTinmates are guilty, not ALL inmates are. Some inmates are there awaiting trial because they can't afford to post bail and once their trial arrives there is a significant enough amount of defendants that are proven innocent and therefore should certainly not have been mistreated during their stay...the fact they had to stay in jail to wait for trial because of their inability to post bail is injustice enough for an innocent person. They shouldn't face beatings and sexual abuse as well! With that said, however, whether an inmate is guilty or not guilty of the crime that put them in jail, if they become violent with staff or other inmates and pose danger to others then an acceptable amount of physical force should be used to deescalate the situation and prevent more injuries but the key word there is ACCEPTABLE - meaning restraint, pepper spray, or tasers but not BEATING anyone.

what about the innocent people that get thrown in jail....because im sure that you don't believe every person in jail is guilty. There has to be a few that really didn't do it.
