I heard it was closing and reopening with new staff but like i say this is what i heard so just let me know as it is a great place and they are turning the ballroom into a bar for the vets and a place they can call home as i know this for sure as it is going to be called bunkers so if anyone gets a chance to support our vets and the vfw then do it because they did and still do for us

Doesn't surprise me at all. VFW's have been poisoning Vets for years. Making alcoholics out of them and taking their money on tip boards and bingo and keeping them drunk as hell. When they get older and can't drink like they used to the VFW doesn't want them around any longer. Same for the American Legion and AMVETS. A real bunch of leeches. Most of them are REMF and don't give a crap about the real Combat guys. I know I was one of them.

I found this Topic and was surprised that more people haven't commented on it. By the way Sarge, you're right, these guys at the VFW and the other Vets Organizations don't give a crap about Veterans only when they have money and will spend it.

I don't know that its Bob Bailey's fault but I do know that he hasn't done anything to help other Veteran's. He depends on the Vet's vote to get elected and so it goes.

well the correct information is it is reopening under new management and they are remodeling and going to have marshall students paint some murials on the outside and it is going to get painted and remodeled and in the back will be called the bunker and it is oficially reopening on the 13th of this month so it is just a change as it is getting cleaned up and remodeled. And yes they do care very much about vets and i do care about vets to as i am trying to help out in any way that i can and everything would go better if we could all show our support so if anyone gets a chance to stop in then it will be reopened on the 13th and thank you

Part of the discussion here is the VFW selling alcohol to VETS that suffer from PTSD. Alcohol is "Self Medication" that just don't work. It wears out their body and their mind. I know, been there done that. I have 11b20 as my job description when I was in the Army. Alcohol only makes adjusting worse. I've watched many of the older Vets just wear themselves out drinking to forget and it just don't work.

So, are you suggesting the VFW sell to NON-VETS, but not to Vets? Or maybe just serve water or tea? Now that sounds like a boring place to go -- No Beer!!

I don't think ANY PLACE makes one an alcoholic -- either they are or are not.

My PTSD is NOT impacted one way or the other by alcohol. Perhaps your diagnosis is incorrect?

You and I were both grunts -- maybe we should just go to the VFW and throw grenades at each other instead of drinking! Naw! Better still, what say we just go over and shoot the breeze with fellow soldiers.

If veterans want to drink, I don't know about you but I sure hope the VFW will accommodate their thirst with something other than water and tea. When I came home from Vietnam I was deemed (by our stupid assed draft dodging LEGISLATORS) too young to buy a beer.

As for me, if our troops can wear our uniforms they should be able to decide for themselves whether or not they want a cold beer. DON'T NEED A DAMNED REPUG OR DIMCRAT shitbag -- few who served in uniform at all -- elected to a piss ant office in Charleston, or some badge, or the VFW or you & I telling them NO !

THE VFW MAY NOT BE PERFECT, BUT WHAT WE HAVE IS BETTER THAN NOT HAVING A VFW AT ALL. THEY HAVE MY SUPPORT.

Drink Responsibly!

JUST MY OPINION....Thank YOU for your service and for YOUR opinion, Brother!

The VFW and American Legion were originally formed as a Service Organization to help VETS receive treatment and compensation if necessary. Over the years Bingo, Beer sales and tip boards and of course always the crooks that steal, not all but some. The Vets still suffer. That makes the Veterans Organizations a business instead of a "Service Organization". I've been in the business of helping Veterans a long time and for me "Veterans Service Organization" means just that. The credability of the VFW and American Legion in West Virginia has been a question for a long time.

I know one thing...the Howard P Hall post was always very dirty...poor housekeeping. Not enough ventilation for the smoke, the staff was always drunk, it needs cleaned up.

We're talking about the VFW and Service Officers and the selling of alcohol and gambling devices. Bingo, tips, and gambling machines. The Veterans I know need help and support from our brothers not cartoons. The State leadership of the VFW sucks. That's not just a statement, that's a fact.
