Billy Ellis passed away. He told me so many great stories about that school. He will be truly missed!

Hello: I'm hoping someone out there can help. I'm doing research on my birth mother for a book project. I know that she attended Huntington High in the 1930s, but I don't know for sure where she went to junior high/middle school, or elementary school.

Here's my question: If my mother was living at 730 Seventh Ave. in the 1930s, where would she have gone to junior high? Could it have been Oley? I have no idea what the boundaries would've been, but the address I found for her family in 1936, when she would've been in middle school, was 730 Seventh Ave., which appears to near the intersection of Seventh Street. In 1938, she was living at 805 24th Street, which is near the intersection of 8th Avenue. Does anyone know where someone living at those addresses would have probably attended junior high back then?

In 1930, when Betty would've been in elementary school, they were living at 1941 Artisan Avenue....any ideas for an elementary school?

I know so little about Huntington because I was placed for adoption at birth in 1961 and my family moved to Texas when I was a baby. I have had trouble getting Betty's school records from Cabell ISD -- they say they can't find them.

Thanks so much for your help!!

Sincerely,
Frank Christlieb

Liz Hughes-Adkins There was an elementary on 3rd St west and 7th Ave I believe Johnston. for the 24th St address it would probably have been Lincoln elementary. Junior high could have been Oley or Lincoln or maybe even Cammack.
March 9 at 2:40pm Unlike 2.
Richard Bartram You might want to check with Jedd Flowers at the Cabell County Board of Education. They still have card files of all the students in Cabell County that date back several decades. The files would reveal every school attended.
March 9 at 4:34pm Unlike 2.
Diann Murphy Perhaps Cammack or Johnson Elem and Lincoln Junior Enslow Junior also Meadows Elem I'm not sure what year these schools were opened, I hope this helps.

I found a picture of my dad's class from 1942-1943 at Oley Jr High, what a hoot! There are several names on the back of the picture. I have no idea if anyone here has a parent that attended during that time but I would be glad to post the photo if you want to see it.
