The reason there are so many junkies in food service is simple its easy money cash daily trust me I been in this business for 20 years the last 15 in management its not just servers its the back of house too as long as companies don't drug test and pay low wages it will always be this way.

Most folks should try the job on and find out on their own. Most of the Waiters & Waitresses work their bits off. It's not an easy or unskilled job. I do think that a tip amount should not be automatically added or a set percent - it all depends on the services provided. There are some bad servers out there but there are some fantastic ones the can make your dining experience special & they should be rewarded & well paid.

I again don't think they are all druggies either. I'm sure some probably are just as they are in any other line of work. Most are just good hardworking people - your friends, neighbors & even family.

If they don't want to work for 2.13 an hour they should quit and get another job and quit whining.
They could work for Mcdonalds for more money, so why stay as a waitress?
Because they make more than people at Mcdonalds and are greedy for more with their sob stories, I don't fall for their crap.
I'm not paying them an extra wage for unskilled labor, but unfortunately a lot of simpletons do and contribute to the drug problems we have with these unskilled laborers..

The waiters at Black Sheep aren't junkies .. the waiters at Huntington Prime aren't junkies. If you're going to Shoney's or some crap place then expect crap food and service.

<quoted text>Here's the deal. Without us 'unskilled laborers' you would have no restaurants to eat out at. 2.13 an hour does not pay the bills, and it most certainly doesn't make up for the disrespectful clientele like yourself that we have to put up with everyday. If you cannot tip your server at least 15% then stay home. We are a convenience to you. If you think waiting tables is a walk in the park, maybe you should try it out yourself sometime because you're sadly mistaken. As for us being junkies...yes there are a select few but then again they're everywhere not just in restaurants. Many servers are in school, trying to get through to the next step in life. So think about that next time. Maybe it's you that's a little selfish.
I agree completely.

I am a server at fat pattys. Making it very well while I go to school and take care of my children. I stay at fat pattys because I can make my own hours and make a decent living while still being able to manage school and being a parent. Not all service industry people are "junkies" who are lazy! That is such a stereotype! This town is so infested with backwoods bible belt fatties! Get out of the "holler" more often and open your eyes to this big world and stop judging things you clearly know nothing about. This city in crawling with junkies hard up, they arent just in the resturant business JACKASS! I love my job and have a great time and am far from lazy! And in the end isn't that what we all strive for? A job we love and make good money?

If you are serving food to people, then you should be on no drugs and not doing drugs in a food service establishment. Unfortunately its food service in this area has really gone downhill and nobody even wants to go out to eat anymore. And when they do, they never leave a decent tip. I consider myself to be a great tipper but at the same time, I dont feel that I should pay your wages either. Your employer should do that period, just like anywhere else.

I eat out frequently & I have been a server years ago as well. I really don't think that the many of the restaurant owners are going to change the way they pay their staff any time soon. Tip are a very important part of any servers income.

That being said the server has a good bit of control over their income. I'm not fond of percentage based tipping. I have had the full array of service levels at local establishments - Very Bad as well as fantastic. I would consider myself a very fair and good tipper but it all hinges on the service received. I have left some small tips but I have left some really nice large tips as well.

I agree with percentage base. It is up to the waitress to make sure your expierence whether it be your 1st or 100th a great one! I make sure my hair, make up, clothes and personal hygeine is up to par as well as my manners and attitude. Lets be realistic, no one wants to be waited on by some pilled out junkie but to stereo-type the entire community of average hard working Americans is ignorant. Small minded people are annoying and I despise waiting on them. I basically am speaking to a robot who judges me based on the fact that I have tattoos and peircings but I am a hard working single mother with terrific manners. My suggestion is if you are encountering so called junkies when getting service either eat at home or up the class and eat somewhere else that is known for a better staff (Fat Pattys) lol
