As long as it's not in Huntington, you should be ok. I would advise right across the river in Ohio. Better schools, cheaper insurance rates, low crime, no hookers, gays, blacks, no personal property tax on your vehicles, no foodtax, and you can drive right over the bridge and enjoy the good stuff Huntington has to offer. Best of both worlds.

Can't go wrong with the Spring Valley area- close to the high school, or between Ceredo-Kenova and Buffalo.

Oooh. I see. Low income. You didn't say cheap. Yeah, you might find the ole Htg more suitable, but once you have money, then you can come over to Ohio.

Are you guys kidding me? Huntington is a nice place to live you just have to find the right neighborhood. Huntington, Barboursville, Milton, Lesage, Westmoreland, or Ona. It's all the same. Make the best of your life and where you live will be fine and dandy.

What's your price range for buying or renting? That would help for me to give you an idea of a nice place to live.

Well, guess I just rained on the parade. Have a very nice, large, brick home in Proctorville, but I got the "gay".

People are idiots. I have lived in some major cities; Huntington is a small town. It has crime, but unless you have only lived in Redneck Hollar, WV, you will be fine. Yes, you see different people of different backgrounds. It is what the real ("rest of the world outside of country roads USA") really looks like. Some people need to realize demographics are changing. It is in their best interest to get along.

I'm with you on this one. Everyone that posted before has never lived in a bigger city and experienced anything but their small town ways. As I said before, life is what you make of it!

Well not everyone hasn't lived in a big city, I have lived in LA,California; Washington, D.C.; Jacksonville, Florida; Fort Wayne, Indiana, and countless smaller cities. Lived in Redneck Holler, WV as well, and you are all right, wherever you are, tou just gotta make the best of it, demographics are constantly changing so I really don't care if you are gay, besides, you guys and/or gals really know how to party! LOL To those that wouldn't welcome someone based on sexual oreintation, color, or creed, well, you ain't welcome here. Hell I am probably the biggest "redneck" on here, but I base my oppinion of you, after I meet you, talk to you, and see what your about...not just blindly following the masses...by the way, I am a former U.S. Marine, a husband, father, and a grandfather, and a construction contracter at the age of 44 so I think I got most of the demographics covered...Silly Hillbillies...LOL

Nothing wrong with rednecks; they can be great people. The same is true of all racial backgrounds and differences. There are good and bad people in every group: have the mental fortitude to decide for yourself. To the original poster, all areas have some crime (yes even Proctorville); research the crime statistics and look for what you want to avoid. Don't stay away from a whole area because different people may live there. Different people live everywhere.

I agree with the others, it is what you make it.

If you are a grad student or starting a new job, try The Cloisters or La Salle apts. Decent apartments, pretty safe, rent not too bad. You have to really watch where you rent in Htg. Some areas are really unsafe. And some landlords are slumlords.
