I don't see why they read it. It's a book that's been written 3500 years ago.

I dont see why you care...If you want to "see" with greater clarity in life then open up your brain cavity and close your mouth, otherwise mind your own business.

Agree!! Boggles my mind! So many aspects of Christianity either annoy me or amaze me that people still believe in it though. You are indoctrinated since birth to believe the fairy tales of whatever religion your family (and most likely the majority of your country) believes but, for instance, you are also indoctrinated from birth to believe storks bring babies and Santa Clause brings Christmas presents. Why though when you grow up does education and common sense take over and allow you to realize magic, supernatural beings do not exist in every aspect except the ONE religion you were raised to follow?!
l. I don't know how the earth was created, if we have a soul or if there is some sort of afterlife/reincarnation for souls so I cannot, nor can anyone else, say 100% definitively that there is absolutely NO god. But, I also don't believe that absence of scientific explanation is proof of a god either and certainly not proof a god specific to a certain religion.
I think what gets me the worst though is when you hear a "Christian" make derogatory comments about people or other religions, though. You can ask them to explain why they feel, for instance, a tribe in Africa is ridiculous for still holding belief in witches, evil spirits, and witch doctors. Then have them compare that to their belief in a religion that preaches the reality of talking snakes, a man living inside a whale, a man walking on water, and (young earth Christians) their belief the world is only 6,000 YRS old and biblical Eve was in the Garden of Eden playing fetch with triceratops. Yet, even though science has proven these things couldn't have happened they still can't see the resemblance in their ridiculous beliefs compared to that of other religions they deem ridiculous, even more ironically often based on science. GO FIGURE!
I think it ALL boils down to human psychology. Just as a child is indoctrinated by a certain religion from birth because it is what their family, church, community, and usually country mostly believe and are therefore most likely to grow up and follow/pass on is due to how human psychology works. I feel the need for religion to begin with goes back to human psychology, as well. Humans are curious creatures who demand answers for everything. Unfortunately, there are some questions science simply cannot answer right now and most likely never will.
Science cannot offer comfort when a loved one dies by telling you your loved one had a soul that is now safely in the afterlife waiting to reunite with you upon your death. Religion can. It offers people answers to our biggest questions. Where did we come from? Why are we here? Why are some people taken at a young age? Why do people suffer? What happens when we die and how can death be made into something not to be feared? Religion answers all of that in a much more comfortin way than science can when you consider science can't answer most of those questions, at all.
Comfort from a belief in a supernatural higher power doesn't bother me whether that is belief in a real thing or not. I derive my biggest problems in religion from the problems, stereotypes, discriminations, and hatred it breeds. By allowing many, many different religions you only further segregate the human race and provide more opportunities to judge others and that is not beneficial psychologically or to mankind.
This must be horrible for you...not sure why you care so much what others think.

Its funny hearing you talk about "the hatred it breeds" and "oppurtunities to judge each other"....but yet youre the one who is hateful and judgemental.

The bottom line is, you dont have a clue what life is about...nobody does.

I find the easiest way to get by in life is to mind my own business and respect others' ways...

Why do you despise them? So it was written years ago. What about people who read fictional books or watch fictional movies? Is that pointless too? Obviously people get something from reading the bible its the most read book in the world...

Hey Zaphod,,,this posting is not about being gay, so leave it alone. And being gay doesn't breed anything. It takes opposites, not two of a kind.

This is just a thread to piss people like you all off, just like the one that say "personally I Despise gays" are you all truly that slow to put stuff together?? Topix is a public forum to post Unnecessary, pointless sh!t, and to start disputes about nothing, to allow people to make asses of theirselves without their knowledge. So the OP worked, you all fell for it, lol. There's your fcking education. Now continue to comment on this topix (just as the OP wants) and keep it at the top.

Being gay does breed hate. It can also breed bacteria and other types of STDs.

I do not despise people who read the Bible, the Quran, or whichever book. What I despise is people who try to force their beliefs on others.

What is the point in this thread then? Furthermore why do you care what people read? It's a public forum so therefore it's everyone's business.

I know it was a long post and so I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you misread, misinterpreted, or otherwise somehow confused what I said. There is nothing "horrible" for me and I am the last person on Earth to care what other people think, especially strangers. And, if you found my post "hateful" and "judgmental" then I feel the one who should be pitied is you. If REALITY bothers you that much it is no wonder you are so defensive over religion a.k.a. nonrealistic beliefs.
What I DO NOT agree with is segregated religions because they DO breed hate and cause people to be more judgmental of others and you have actually proven my point. I don't agree with YOUR VIEW of religion so you immediately attack me, judge me, and "pity" me. Christians for instance are supposed to be taught to judge NO ONE yet most Christians immediately want to crucify someone if they admit to being gay, atheist, or generally anything "not Christian-like" and you certainly wasted no time judging me.
I didnt misread anything my confused friend and nobody is judging anybody. Didnt you say in your first post that many aspects of religion "annoyed" you?.....the only one "getting defensive" is you.

People like you are funny. You attack then blame others of attacking, you judge then accuse others of judging. You say your " the last person to care" but here you are posting 3000 character posts...You put the word "pity" in your post but i never said the word "pity"...you do know what "quotes" are for right?

You also said "i dont agree with your view of religion so you attack me".....ummm no sweety that was you. I never even stated my religion, you just guessed. Im not the one denegrating and insulting people for their "non-realistic" beliefs..

I suggest you take my original advice and mind your own business and close your mouth...nobody wants to hear your ignorant, insultive opinion on religion.
