Went by there the other day and saw this beautiful Aztec-style building, with cacti in the front lawn. I've never seen anything else like it around here - what is its story?

No, that house has been there since the 1960s. The guy that owns Blackhawk Development on 26th lives there.

His apartments have been raided by law enforcement numerous times. His property ruins the neighborhoods where they are located. In my opinion this man's rental business is a blight on Huntington. There are other slumlords that do the same but his is the worst in my opinion. He will rent to mentally insane people who are a danger to the neiggborhoods.

I know an older lady who lived a couple blocks from his rental property and a crazy mental ill black guy was exposing himself to everyone in public. His tenant terrified the entire block. Police always there numerous times per day. just trash is all i am saying...pure trash.

There are several slumlords in Highlawn. They don't care, they rent to whoever shows up and asks to rent the place. Most of them don't live in Highlawn, so they don't have to be bothered by their tenants who do nothing but cause problems to the rest of the neighborhood. It's just a shame. Highlawn used to be a very nice, safe place to live.

Highlawn was a prestigious place at one time. Middle and upper middle class who worked at the nickel plant, Basf, American Car, and other good jobs. Now we have all minimum wage jobs, crumbly houses with tell tale signs they were once beautiful homes. The rotten wood, peeling paint, cracked foundations are all that is left of a flourishing city that was clean and beautiful. Now our city is full of dope, blacks, mexicans, white trash, junk and debris littering the streets and alley ways.

Has anyone noticed the clientele coming and going from the house on corner of 1st and 27th? There were about 15 people on porch the other eve, pit bull running free in the yard. They had even carried a couch out into the yard. Hate to look at that all summer.

People don't respect their neighbors anymore. It's sad, but it's not just HIghlawn, it's everywhere. People who work and try to do right are always going to have to put up w/ people who don't work and don't care about anything. They're not paying for it, so why take care of it??

Old Mort has another house full of dealers huh?....it makes a lot of sense. maybe the cops need to kick in mr. reed's door and see what is up.

maybe just maybe possibly he is part of the problem instead of a landlord victim?
