Just keep in mind that servers don't forget faces that don't tip.. And you have no idea how easy it is to fuck with someones food, plus servers generally stick together and warn eachother if they know the person doesn't tip.. So next time you don't tip, remember, you might get a little extra tip in your food the next time you eat there
wow, u must not b 2 bright. if i have a bad enough experience that causes me not to tip a server, i do not go back anyways.

Why pay for the food, if you aren't going to pay for the service? Just walk out, you deserve better and that will teach them!

I'll pay for the food if I consume it but why tip for crummy service?

Why pay for food that is cold? Food I wont eat? It's not my fault the waitress had her head up someone's rear and didn't do her job. Why support the business who keeps servers who can't serve their customers? I do deserve better than that and the place i went when i left was happy to serve me and i was happy to pay them.

Yeah, don't pay for your cable because nothing you want to watch is on,

You should pay for the service you received. Servers have to pay taxes based on the bills so when you don't tip they lose money.

I use to work at bob evans when i was going to marshall. The waitresses made around 2 an hour and if you put their tips on a debit or credit card when u checked out it was taxed. But that was about 4 yrs ago.

As for the tipping if they are really bad I leave a penny. Thats more offensive than none at all. At least it use to be.

Bull crap. They do not pay taxes based on the bills. Most of them probably get the welfare program call earned income tax credit because they don't report their tips anyways. I bet they ALL get back more on their tax refund than they paid in taxes.

Waiting tables is a form of art. Those who do it are either very good, average, or very bad. Customers can be rated the same way- good, average, or bad.

A very good waitress can deal with all types of customers and even if the customer does not start out as a great tipper, they can be trained over time to tip respectibly.

There are some people who no matter what you do for them they will always expect that you still owe them more. These kinds of customers will be bad tippers. I have also found that many times, rich people are bad tippers. I complained about this to my dad and he said 'how do you think they got rich in the first place. it was certainly not by giving it away.'

A good server does not expect a tip... she/he will go above and beyond in serving to insure that they earn that tip. And even when you do everything right there will still always be some people who just don't get it that they should leave a tip. Those are the selfish customers, but be professional and treat them just the same. There is always the possibility that they will realize there error and you may get a dollar or two.

To me, waitressing was fun and a bit of a strategic game in getting to know the customers and therefore figuring out how to achieve a high rate of gain for every shift.

I was not, and will never pay to be treated that way. End of story. They did not fulfill their obligation, why should I pay? Don't judge me based on a situation you did not experience. Oh, and crappy restaurant service is a far stretch from nothing to watch. You are ignorant.

no matter what you think servers and bartenders do pay taxes. I was a bartender through college and I had to claim 8% of all register sales as income based in the irs's assumption that I would make at least that in gratuity. If you came in and had a $100 dollar tab and didn't tip at all it cost me $8 to serve your sorry ass. Next time you came in you were not worth my time so you got service only when I had nothing else to do. I bet you're thinking "well I wouldn't go back there" right? That's the point asshat. Tip people and stop acting like these people owe you a blow job with your $7 cheeseburger.

I am a server & we make $2.13 an hour which is taxed so when pay day comes we see none of it . We are required by law to claim 10% of our daily sales a day . So if you do not tip we still have to claim it as if you did which means we lose money . I just thought I would set the record straight since some of you think we are obviously making minimum wage .

I tip based upon service. I start at 15% and adjust up or down based what the server deserves. Keeping beer in my glass goes a long way toward getting a good tip.

YFNA, do you tell your server that you want your beer kept full? Or just expect them to know that?

I am sure telling them would go a long way towards getting it, but then you would need another excuse.

When it's getting low, I expect them to ask.

Do you think servers deserve a tip regardless of their performance?

YPNA, yes they deserve some tip, the amount that the government assumes that they will make for tax purposes, then more for better service.

your approach is to vary the pay of someone without telling them how you judge good service and more money. Many people only want one beer and don't want to be bothered with questions and interruptions.

Just tell them you would always want another beer and they will bring one without asking. Then tell them no more when you don't want anymore. God it is so simple, but people are asshats.

I would think a service job is so simple but many times the server is an asshat who expects something for nothing. Don't like the way you are payed? Get another job.

they make more than that wrote:
<quoted text>.

Oh, come on. Most people only leave a 2 dollars per tip? I do not believe that.

Ok, lets say that all of them only leave a 2 dollar tip. If you get 4 customers an hour (very conservative) x 2 bucks = 8 dollars plus your alleged 2 dollar hourly wage = 10 bucks an hour. Still not to bad for an unskilled trade. btw, do they or do they not report tips???? hmmm...
You are required by the restaurant to claim at least 10% of your total sales for the night for you tips. You also have to claim all of credit card tips. Most customers these days use credit cards. The bus boys, bartenders, and hostesses also make less than min wage and receive a tip out from the waitstaff. You are required as a server to tip out 3% of your total sales to the busboys, bartenders, and hostess. Each receiving 1%. So even if you do not leave a dime to the waitress they still have to tip out the others and claim a 10% tip on their taxes.
