I have put in my app for several RN positions at St. Mary's. Pulmonary, Cardiac Stepdown, ER, Intermediate care... Just wanting some info on these units. Are they good floors to work on? How is staffing? Want to make sure I make the right decision.

Cardiac Stepdown has a lot and I mean A LOT of turnover. As does ER. It depends what your long term goals might be.

Pulmonary gargles my balls and stepdown's manager is a bitch. Other than that have at it.

I have heard that about step down. I am at kdmc right now, but it's a scary place right now. Don't know if I should take a chance on st. Mary's. I have heard a lot of good about that hospital.

keep your eyes and ears open.......if i agree with you about the good things at stmarys well then we would both be wrong........pts are lucky to make it out alive from what i have seen with loved ones

Stepdown's manager is NOT a bitch. She just expects her staff to do their jobs and take care of their patients. She is an excellent nurse and expects the same from the staff. If you are looking for an easy job,it's not the place for you. If you pride yourself in giving good patient care, it's a good unit to work on.

You can say what you want but when they are looking for new staff every 6 months then something ain't right....

I am not looking for something easy at all. Just hoping for a good job with good people to work with. Wonder why the turnover rate is high there?

Intermediate care is the last place you want. The manager plays favorites and doesn't control her staff. If she likes you you're golden if she doesn't you're miserable.

There is good and bad about every unit, I know. Facing some very tough decisions in the next few weeks. Hopefully I will get interviews from these units, and get a feel for the managers, and be able to find a great job with great people.

St Marys has a high turnover rate because everyone they hire are very young. This generation doesn't know what work is and want the easy ways out and move on if they think it's better elsewhere. St Marys wants the best and is very hard to work for because if you don't do it right you get in trouble

That's not high expectations. I can truely say that my dept has great people and a great manager. Nursing is not an easy job but you should never have to dread going to work because the staff is aweful. If so it is because of bad management tolerating it.
