They distance themselves from non druggy friends and family.

You can rarely reach them at home or by phone.

Dependin on the drug, they may lose weight and their eyes will change becoming dark under the eyes or glassy.

Definitely the darkening under the eyes. Most pain pills make you itch. Opanas are the hot pain pill on the market now and many people pick at themselves on it too. Major weight loss and of course lying and stealing to no avail. I know quite a few people who just flat out quit caring about personal hygiene as well. Said they didn't want to lose the high. Also profusely sweating.

That's a personal hell I'm glad I've never had to be a part of. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

Pain pills tend to speed people up.
You may see them unable to sit still at times. They may even talk more and faster when they are high. Most of the time when they are high on pills they aren't hungry, won't eat, but will be very thirsty. They may loose weight over time. A person normally has glassy or glazed over looking eyes while they are high. When they are coming down off their high they may be grouchy and tired.

i had a friend i knew had a history of pain pills and other things, money disappeared from their (his and wifes) bank account.....and strange excuses like he took out 40 for gas then a day later he took another 40 for gas again then she gets in the car and there is no gas (he lived and worked within 5 miles) and it was a low mileage sedan.....she knew what he was doing.....he was very friendly to everyone.....you couldnt piss him off while on pills he was too sedated to care......he would carry on long deep thought out conversations with you and he looked like he would just fall out....i dont know how he kept his eyes open and he would sway.....i know meth a common side effect is they pick their scabs and eat them and their teeth fall out.......since any medication goes to your hair alot of serious drug users may have dry hair or losing hair when normally they have healthy looking hair

Consider yourself lucky then. It is horrible to have to deal with a friend or family member doing it. It is sad to cut yourself away from someone you love because of what they are doing.

I also want to add, if they are snorting the pills, they will be sniffly all the time. Constantly sniffing and rubbing their nose, normally they do this for the first little bit after they have done the pills.

I have delt with this a few times with an ex boyfriend. He first started picking fights with me for no reason, he would leave and i wouldn't hear from him for days sometimes weeks (we have a child together) when i would confront him on why he didnt come see our child he would always say he didn't want to see me or something like that, always trying to push me away by being very mean and hurtful. The only thing they care about is the pills and they become a totally different person. They get angry about everything, they loose weight, dark circles, he would never really sleep.I stuck by his side and helped him get off them. He was clean for about a year then decided to get on them again so, I had to walk away this time. So the best thing to do is follow your gut! It's almost always right.

I was on them for 5 years worked my guts out and never stole a thing, very few people knew or could tell. I went to a treatment facility and they didn't even think I was an addict till I was drug tested! It's hard to figure out sometimes don't believe the hype about signs cause more than likley 60% can hide it well! I did, for over 5 yrs no skimpin on hygiene either and slept like a baby ate like horse!

I'm going though this with my girlfriend right now. She is addicted to nerve pills. Always overtakes her pills and then runs short at the end of the month. Her girlfriend got her into snortin them also. I hear her in the bathroom every time she goes. I always hear a big long snort and then water running and snortin the water to wash it down.
I'm in the process of throwing her out. I don't have the time or patience to wait for her to go through rehab.

It's hard to say every person is different and have their own tales and hints mostly it will start with a lack of interest in things they used to enjoy and slight pulll back from from family and friends
