My family is wanting to place my aunt in Heritage Center. I've heard that there are issues there along with most all of the local nursing homes. Can anyone, preferably workers from there, give any insight as to the care and attention that people get there. My aunt has dementia and I'm concerned that she won't get the proper care there and is unable to tell anyone if she isn't. I want to make sure. Thank You!

Firstly, my condolences in regards to your aunt. Secondly, unfortunately there isn't a corporate owned facility in the USA that treats their 'residents' the way they deserve and need to be treated. Unfortunately, the corporate run places are in it all for the almighty dollar, they treat the employees and residents like sh*t. In our tristate area all facilities only employ at the BARE STATE minimum which allows corp more money for themselves as opposed to providing actual respite and chronic illness/disability CARE. Nursing staff members are forced to their limit with the amount of patients/residents they're responsible for and the crazy hours they're forced to work.

My personal suggestion to you and EVERY individual with someone in their lives you're thinking about admitting into a corporate owned facility for "care".... HOME HEALTH!!! Medicare will pay for so many hours a week and so will the VA. Medicaid in Ohio will as well. Unfortunately, WV is waaaaay behind in the Home Health field but we're working on it.

Honestly don't believe you'll find a facility that gives 100 percent care. To many patients that often times leaves some neglected.

I use to work there back in 2010. If she ends up on the dementia unit on the first floor they are great there. If she ends up on the 2nd or 3rd floor make sure you visit OFTEN. They take better care of residents whose family comes in alot.

My mother is in there and I think they've done a good job. I visit at least once a week and make sure I speak with the head nurses every time. Make sure you check the loved ones clothing and make sure its labeled if you bring new clothing in.
Mother was on the first floor for dementia and as stated above, she was treated very well. I was very impressed.
She is now on the 2nd floor and while they dont give her as much attention due to more patients, I do feel her needs are met - all things considered.

Unfortunately, she could not live with my family and I, as my wife and I both work. It would have ruined us finanacially and hurt our children and their image of their grandmother.
Its a tough choice where you have to weigh all options and whats best all around.
I am pleased with Heritage for the most part. Go for a visit and tour, they'd be happy to have you.
